what's the difference between a Levin and a Trueno?
well besides the headlights |
From what I remember, I think the Trueno had more sportier trims available than the Levin, the GT-V and the GT-Apex. Also, I think that the Levins are comparable to the Corolla SR5 as they are the softer, daily driver versions of their sportier brothers.
Interesting side-note: "Levin" and "Trueno" are the Greek(?) words for lightning and thunder. Good to know. And knowing is half the battle! G.I. JOE!!! |
maybe you should ask on club4ag or something. This is an rotary engine forum.
|
club4ag sucks. probably the worst forum on the internet.
|
One's turbo and one's not to my understanding... That's the most outstanding difference.
|
are we serious? haha
its the headlights, hood, fenders, etc, no mechanical differences really depending on the trim level |

lol i always figured levins were for itsuki and only people named takumi could drive treunos...
heh i actually know close to nothing about either although im pretty sure both were NA... slightly sure theyre the same motor |
both na 85hp slow underpowered overpriced pieces of crap, it takes sooooo much money to make one awesome.
|
and even then, its not going to be that fast in a straight line. i think you used to be able to find them for like $300. now they are like $2000 or something...
|
Both came in AE85 with SOHC 1.5 and AE86 with DOHC 1.6 and good suspension. same cars, different lights. and front end...basically.
|
It does have a nice little engine, I was even considering using one in the Locoblade - nothing wrong with individual throttle bodies and 8500rpm, a crowd called RAW engineering over here can get em up to 200bhp with not a huge amount of effort - which is pretty decent.
I agree though they're not up to a huge amount when they're in a Levin (or Corolla twin-cam as they're called over here), as far as I can see the only thing special about them is the fact that they're RWD and came with a LSD. Mark |
and they weigh what 2400lbs?
|
yeah, they're all hyped up
i dont really like them, waste of money for very little power i was just wondering |
drop in a AE101 20v 4AG- it has 160hp out of a 1.6L, give those Honda B-16 fags a run. oh yeah- duhhrrr the B-16 isnt the only 1.6L with 100hp per liter.

The AE86 is a really good car to learn how to road race/drift with, solely for the fact that it is underpowered. It requires the driver to learn skill and technique to get the most out of that car. A good driver can make that car great.
However, Initial D-riceboys are jumping on the drifting bandwagon and trading in their Civics for Corollas, increasing the demand and skyrocketing the price of a 19yr old car to 5x times it's actual value. Thankfully, most haven't realized that the best deal out there is the FC. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png |
they're scared of the FC because of the rotary....good it sucks everyone should stay away.

"all i heard is bad bout dem rotaries...ima get me a 240...240...240...corolla...240...240" most drift events round here are 240 shows. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif |
i agree, everyone i talk to says "man, i'd never own your car. rotaries blow up to easy."
LOL, thats all the much better for me. there is even a guy that said he wouldn't race me cuz he doesn't "mess" with rotaries. hehe https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif |

So the 86 is a RWD Honda? Damn I didn't think Toyota would stoop that low. Oh nevermind they made the Echo. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif

I owned an '86 GT-S, I'll tell you the difference..
In America, an AE85, "LEVIN", would be a 1985 Corolla SR5. They did NOT come stock with Limited-Slip, they were SOHC 1.5L, and are carberated. And yes, in Japan the LEVIN would come with the LEVIN lights. (non-flip-up) https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/ohmy.png In America, the AE86, "TRUENO", was actually sold between 1985-1987, as Corolla GT-S. They come stock with I think 1-way LSD, are DOHC 4AGE 1.6L motors, and of course, have the flip-ups. They are stock with 125hp. The Japanese TRUENO however comes stock with 140hp, and is better all-around. Both motors have the capability of having dual-throttle bodies, thanks to modification to the TVIS system created by Toyota. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/cool.png BTW....the AE101 20valve motor in a Hachi would rape. My car was 125hp, stripped, and I barely lost to my friend's 210hp Eclipse GS-T. :] http://images.cardomain.com/member_images/...595_21_full.jpg https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif My Cardomain profile. (has more pics of the hachi before I sold it) |
nice 86. i'd much rather have an FC over an 86 though. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png
|
my friends gt-s with an exhaust dynoed at 90hp, they lied from the factory and said it was more.

Levins are not the SOHC models. there are AE86 4AGE GT Apex Levins available also as well as AE85 SOHC Trueno's. |

What you have to understand is manufacture advertised HP is Engine HP or Flywheel HP. Not at the wheels. Also not every car will have the exact HP they say it does some will have more and some will have less.
I seen a FD with intake full exhaust and boostin 1k on stock twins pull 290HP before. |

It's true that Club4AG's forums are horribly overrun with the latest in teenage drift fanboys, but the Tech Info section of the website has always been an excellent resource for Toyota information.
Levin/ Trueno/ Corolla info you're looking for is here: http://www.club4ag.com/faq%20and%20tech_pa...rison_chart.htm PS, NONE of the AE86-chassis cars were equipped with any type of forced induction. The '93-97 Levin (FWD japan/australia only model) came with a supercharged 1.6L motor, engine code 4AGZE. This motor can be swapped into the AE86 chassis, I've seen a well-prepped GZE swap at the LA region autocrosses, it had top time of the day for a while, against some very competitive cars. RWD Corolla's aren't much stock, but it's a good chassis to modify, mostly because they're so lightweight, compact, and well-balanced. Not to mention cheap. I love my RX-7 more, but my Corolla SR5 is a good daily driver, economical, reliable, and surprisingly fun to drive, even with only 80hp. -scott- |
