The first thing I do at the track is check tire pressure. 18psi was a good starting point for me. At the line I held the rpm's at 4000. slowly let the clutch out to were I can just feel the car wanting to move. When light turns green quickly push gas peddle a release clutch. If car bogs the next time I would try launching 4500rpm's. If car still bogs at the line I would increase tire pressure to 22psi. If the car would spin the tires at the line I would decrease tire pressure to 15psi. I never change my driving technic to improve launching, adjust your rpm's or tire pressure.
Now when shifting to a higher gear. If I shift to second gear at 7500rpm's and the car tires start to spin I would shift at a lower rpm next time around. I would shift in to second gear at 6500 or 7000rpm's next time to see if the tires spin is gone. Again I do not change my shifting technic, only change the rpm point of shifting gears. Another way to find out your best shifting point is knowing your torque curve. If your torque curve falls off at 6500rpm's then there is no real need to take the motor to 7500rpm's before shifting gear.
Here is what my shifting pattern was at the track. Launch at 4000rpm's,Shift in to second at 6300-6500rpm, in to third at 6500-6700rpm's, then to fourth at 7500rpm's. Shifted in to second and third gear at this low rpm to prevent wheel spin.
I always try to make the car adjust to me instead of me adjusting to it. I have a bad habit of always pushing the clutch in all the way when shifting. Tried to teach my self to only push clutch half way but it took to much of my concentration. My solution was to adjust the clutch peddle where there was allot of play at the top and the clutch would grab lower on the floor.
