First Time At The Track
#1
Well i went to the dragstrip for the first time tonight. Atlanta Dragway in Commerse. It was fun but i could not figure out how to launch the car, maybe it was my tires, really sucky eco tires, probably treadware about 1,000,000. Well anyway best time of the day was a 15.111, man it sucked. that was with a 2.592 60' time at 96.58 mph. The best 60' time i got was a 2.202 but i missed 3rd so that sucked. The best part of the day was my reaction times, nothin worse than .433 with my best r/t of a .057, 60' 2.211 but only made a 15.225 1/4 mile. Anyway i made 8 runs, car did fine temp wise, only wish i could get my launch better. I was trying different rmps all night, 3000, 3500, 4500 , could never find a good one. What do you guys normally launch at? Plus do u do a burnout to help heat the tires up? I tried but i really had never done one before, "just rev it up and dump the clutch" right?
I have an 89 Turbo 2, RB turbo back exhaust, hks filter, FCD, removed air pump, boost at 10 psi, just broken-in rebuild.
Also i have some ACT clutch that is really stiff, pretty heavy clutch, dont know what it is , it came on the car when i bought it.

is your car bogging off the line? or are you spinning the tires like crazy? you want to leave the line with a lil wheel spin, but not to much..and not enough will cause the car to bog down and fall out of the powerband.

i dont really know, i maybe spinning too much, because i know i have really bad tires. All i know is that they spinn then the car bogs ( the rpms just die and have to build up again from about 2000)

I'll be happy to throw in my two cents. I got some extra wheels and put some BFG drag TA's on 'em. They hook up great! Tires are going to make a huge difference on your launch.
With decent street tires, I tended to get wheel hop at the dragstrip, which is pretty nasty. I had a hard time finding a way to get it to hook up without bogging or hopping. With the drag radials, I can post sub-2.0 sec. 60-foot times with pretty much zero wheelspin.

Yeah, i'd most definately agree. You're FC is pushing enough power, that traction could be you're issue. Especially since you know you have some shitty tires. Get some new ones and try again!!
