2004 Spanish Grand Prix from Catalunya

Starting Grid: Schummacher 1st - Montoya - Sato (best start ever for a Japanese driver) - Trulli - Barrichello ( w. high fuel load?) - Ralph Schummacher - etc

Trulli's Renault JUMPS at the start passing all to 1st place before 1st turn, Sato passed Montoya, and Alonso 8th in grid now in 6th place.

Trulli and Schummacher pit early (laps 9-10)- 3-stop strategy. Barrichello in lap 17 has a horrible pit stop. Have you noticed that his pit stops are 2 sec slower than Schumi's?

By lap 33 it's the Schummacher-Barrichello Ferrari procession, followed by Trulli and Alonso, and Sato! Where's Kimmi and Montoya? Kimmi is on 11th place. Montoya had front brake problems and they changed the bias to the rear brakes to BBQ at his pit stop on lap 47.

The race ended with a Ferrari 1-2 followed by Trulli, Alonso, and Sato (his best finish ever)!

It was Schummachers 5th consecutive victory since the start of the season, tying the mark by Nigel Mansell. He has a perfect 50 points for the driver's championship.

Schumi is just sick. While he obviously gets special treatment in the pits (his times are almost ALWAYS better than Barichello's) he still puts down the fast laps when he needs to and just plain makes everyone else look 2nd rate out there. It's like he's not even driving hard to keep up with the field! The guy is like God or something...it's just unreal. I really like the Renault guys too, but Schumi's talent and Ferrari's engineering just overpower... God I love F1...

barchello was on a 2 stop strategy, vs shumi's 3. trulli had a chance to win it but they didnt go faster when shumi pitted and his stop wasnt fast.

i feel bad for williams and maclaren, they are both having really bad seasons

If Barrichello is on 2 stop to Schumachers 3, his stops have to be longer to get the extra fuel in.

NO WAY! Is that how that works?

What I meant by saying that Barichello's pits are always longer is that they are longer because of mistakes. In general it seems to me like when Schumi comes in the pit crew has it together and usually gets him out quickly and efficiently. Then when Barichello pits, you can almost see the attitude change and things get screwed up. It's not all the time, but if the Ferrari pit crew makes an error that costs time, it's a safe bet that it's gonna happen to Barichello.
