Ok I used to be a burn out, but thats a different story. I have a 94 fd, with a t78 kit that dynoed 450 rwhp . I have a diff brace but I am still running my stock axels and diff. I did install a ACT six puck clutch and I will be running on MT et streets at the track.

Last season I was still on stockers, around 320 rwhp. I launched at 5k, on street tires it ran a 12.8 Obviously my new set up is considerably faster, but I have some "good" new issues Launching the car is one question. with this much power I have the impression I will rip my rear end off. So I wasnt going to launch it that hard till I get my rear end built up. Since the t78 is a little lagy I know anyhting less the 5k at launch isnt effective .

Ok, burn out, looks easy but how do you do it ? I didnt beat on my street tires, since its not worth it, but with street slicks do you just keep one foot on the break and just light up the rear tires after you drove threw the water ?

Thanks

You can power brake which is step on the brake pedal and simultaneously step on the gas pedal at the same time. Really isn't good for your rear brakes but it works. Or you can get a line lock kit from Summit for like $60 bucks and all you have to do is step on the brakes push a button which holds the pressure in on your front brake calipers and then go about doing your burnout and release the button when you want to go. I like the line lock especially when you are staging because you don't have to worry about rolling through the lights. Or you can just rev the hell out your engine in second gear and dump the clutch you should have enough horsepower to spin the hell out of cold tires.

Like he said you can do a brake stand which wears down the back brakes or get yourself a line lock kit that is made for doing burnouts. At the dragway I go to (Milan Dragway) I see a good amount of pro's that don't just drive though the water, they go around it then reverse into the water keeping the front tires dry for sure grip.Better to be safe then sorry IMO.

Thanks for the advice, I forgot all about line lock kits.

As for some of the "negative " advice, well thats your problem not mine. When I read about guys that snap everything, and pop motors left and right, I question how they treat the equipment. Going fast isnt just about speed, its also about maintaining the equipment. Breaking something must be pretty easy when you dont have a clue.

would you mind clarifying what you are talking about? or have you gone off on a wild tangent for no reason? was that directed towards me ?

if so i don't break engines. i did break lots of weak designed mazda parts that were made for 200rwhp not 400rwhp.

I go around the box and back in. Pop the clutch for a mill but not rotate the tires in water.

Roll out ...that way you dont run in the wet tracks of your fronts which would negate any tire grip. Send email I think I have video.

I guess I could clarify but its funny you’re so defensive? Exactly what weak designed parts did you break? Writing “your going to snap something “isnt advice, it’s your opinion. It sounds like you broke a lot.

If you read all of my post you would have seen “with this much power I have the impression I will rip my rear end off. So I wasn’t going to launch it that hard till I get my rear end built up.” Duh

I am well aware of the engineering issues caused by such a large increase in HP on stock equipment. But starting off your response with “if your car has 450hp” is going to encourage some sarcasm …so learn to live with it Mr. Moderator

As for some of the good advice from this post, thanks again. A line lock will do the trick and I see what you mean about backing into the water. Thats some good common sense advice.

if you want to drag race and get a good time you have to go 10/10's that is why i broke alot of parts.

i am defensive because you told me " Breaking something must be pretty easy when you dont have a clue."

i am not a moderator, i'm an administrator that has drag raced many cars many times at many different track and done very well with what i had. go launch really easy and run 12's or 13's........when fd's running stock twin turbos are running 11's maximing everything they can
