Ok, Im not sure if this is the best forum for this.

I downloaded a video recently of an fb doing a full 3 minute burnout. Well, 2 min and 49 seconds of tire smoking fun.

At the end of the video the engine blows. Now the question i have is, what causes the hood to pop up when the engine blows? Does the motor just blow a hole in the rotor housing and release a lot of pressure and causes the hood to fly open?

I was just curious. And seeing as im still considered a newbe i do not have the liberty to post in the general discussion forum, im stuck with the newbe forum untill im no longer a newbe.

I saw that video a while ago.

I'm pretty sure the clutch/flywheel assembly grenaded or something, the hoods on fbs are reverse popping hoods.

I'm not sure though.

Sometimes the flywheel explodes out of the assembley like Colin said and that could put a hole through pretty much anything. It also could be the pressurization from the engine that caused it to blow open.

I think you are talking about the white Fb that had the S/C 20b in it.

Its a black or dark green FB and im pretty sure its the stock 12a. It does have an exhaust.

I don't think it was the flywheel, due to the fact that there was no debris in the surounding area.

It is a reverse opening hood.

In the video the car looks like it is on a drag strip. He preforms quite a few donuts and does this for 2 min and 49 seconds, and then BAM!!! Hood flys open, guy gets out and gets praise from the crowd. Pretty good stuff. Sad to see him kill an FB tho.

Probably a major back fire out of the carb igniting other parts of the fuel system. The green FB that blows up has a pretty serious engine fire going after the explosion. I think the same happens on the supercharged white one. If you want to pay you can download it at 3rotor.com.
