is it something you can measure? like a % of temp drop? i have a feeling is not

mike
efficacy of distilled water vs. distilled water & alcohol mixture or which is better over the other. Lots of questions on this end to be answered.

distiled water and alcohol is better. The alcohol increase the octane and allows for more boost. Alcohol also evaporates faster than water so it cooles better.

If you have an intake temp sensor you can measure the temp difference between when you are spraying and when you are not.

From what I understand all water/alc injection does is lower the intake temp making it more dense. More dense air in the engine means you can add more fuel. Very similar to putting on a large intercooler. If you add alc you also increase the octane again allowing for more boost.

Actually, if I remember all my physics correctly this was wrong. Alcohol may evaporate more quickly but overall the water takes more heat energy to evaporate. The reason alcohol evaporating off your skin feels colder than water is that it happens much faster. For water to evaporate that quickly the temps would need to be much higher but the temp drop would be much greater. Your engine can easily provide the higher temps needed to accomplish this. The reason behind using alcohol in the water is because alcohol also provides more fuel to the engine.

your probably right. The alcohol also helps keep the water from freezing in the winter.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. Things dont freeze much around here so I forget that sort of thing.

If it helps, it was 100 F today and my intake temps were 75 F.

Also, I run a bar on the street in crummy CA pump gas now.

Were you injecting water prior to the intercooler and/or prior to the turbocharger?

Hello no.

I have a unique DIY system, but I believe that AQUAMIST knows what they are talking about. They do NOT recommend prior to the IC at all, and they recommend prior to the turbo on for race applications.

They said that if you do prior to the IC the air going in the IC will be cooled to a point that the IC has no effect, also something about the volume of air being used by the turbo could be negatively affected or something.

I have a dual stage set up. I have a very small Blitz SMIC that has a small 1 GPH nozzle attached to the end tank, and I have a 4 GPH nozzle that is located in the elbow right before the engine. inside the elbow is an extension that goes down about 1.5 inches and has a 90 degree elbow attached to it. An injector is attached to that. The result is the mist is sprayed down the elbow towards the IC in a very fine stream (you should see how fine, its amazing). this stream evaporates immediately, before it goes in the engine.

Tell me that isn't your Ultima sports car. I would be sooooo Jealous.

I have been looking at those for some time. Best deal for the performance. I figure I should be able to afford one in about 50 years.

Just noticed the European plates. Never mind
