i just found ari yallon has two of these trannies so i guess we will see how good they do in the US https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

SPEED_NYC 12-27-2002 12:49 PM

ari has had those for a while now, remember that thread on the evil forum a while back by twister introdoucing the guru trannys? steve kan let the cat outta the bag on like the third page of the thread saying that ari was using one, and was able to improve his best time to a 9.62 withj it. i just thought it was supposed to be a secret because it technically is not a OE tranny anymore, but it uses the stock case, so i think ari has been 'cheating' a bit and not getting hit with the weight penalty for non-OE tranny.....

THANX FOR LETTING THE CAT OUTTA THE BAG VOSKO!!!! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

j/k, he needs more than a tranny to beat the supras next year anyway, any news about his 20B conversion??

vosko 12-27-2002 01:33 PM

i don't know. i would like a guru tranny but i don't have $5000 for one. i'll just have to keep annhilating stock ones for now :(

1Revvin7 12-27-2002 01:36 PM

:yum: You should have got one a long time ago vos.

vosko 12-27-2002 03:57 PM

Guru Racing is a company based in Melbourne, Austarlia.

A number of high performance products are made by them. The gearsets and Torque Biasing Diffs are made from the highest qulity billet material. The engineering is done by a machine shop that makes much of the eqipment for many of the V8 Supercar teams here in Austarlia. For example, the dogrings on the RX7 gearset's are larger than used on the V8 supercars!

No 6 speed has been made yet as they do not want to compromise strength for gears as they have developed themselves from the racing scene. But they are thinking about it due to the number of questions asking about it etc. The trouble is normally these questions are asked by people who do not know really why they want 6 gears!

If you have ever heard of Anythony Rodrigues you may be interested to know that he is involved with Guru Racing in the development into the Drag Racing scene in OZ.

Benny 12-30-2002 11:50 AM

what exactly is a sequential tranny? how is it so much better than a stock one? also, why the hell is it called a dogmission? haha sorry im lame... thanks https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/violin.gif

vosko 12-30-2002 12:13 PM

instead of having syncro's to line up the gears it has DOGS, round gears with slots in them. they basically slam together. they are alot stronger than syncros. sequential tranny's you only have to use the clutch in first gear, you basically bang it up or down on some trans. H pattern you is the standard ones. anyway they can take alot more abuse. i'm talking to guru right now. i might get their tranny still talking to them about it.

i mean for $4900 if i get the whole six speed that would be pretty damn cool https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

75 Repu 12-30-2002 12:26 PM

Damn.. I love how you just have to tap the shifter up or down in a sequential tranny. It seems like it would save time too... Too bad I cant afford one..

That doesn't look like a sequential. The HKS is sequential, and it comes assembled.

The Greddy says H pattern, which isn't sequential. Ok, I'll chip in with you for the HKS, but we'll get one for a 2nd gen, and I'll hold onto it to make sure it's safe.

Dragon 12-30-2002 12:48 PM

Any dogg type transmission is sequential.. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png You pull the shifter back the coggs engage and your in the next gear with out the clutch.. I wouldn't do this everyday driving, but it makes for some damn fast shifting when your racing.. The strait cut gears are also much stronger, but much much more noise than the helical gears on a normal mission..

vosko 01-01-2003 11:16 AM

i can deal with the noise when people ask why is my car is so loud. i reply because its supposed to be https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

i thought all dogmissions were sequential. i might have to contact that company. a six speed would be badass!!!!!!

any comments on the greddy https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

All the Nissan guys over here with 450 hp and over keep breaking the out put shafts on them... Onr guy I know with 600hp has broken his 3 times inthe last year alone.. I've never seen a FD with one in it, so that could be why...

I thought so, but I remember hearing that the Guru transmission wasn't. I guess I learn a few things every day. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

Dragon 01-01-2003 01:20 PM

Well there are sequential transmissions, IE. you can shift gears with out the clutch, and there are sequential shifters that allow you to just pull back and upshift, pull back again and go in to the next gear kinda like a video game... then you push forward to down shift... A motorcycle shifter is a good example of a sequential shifter in a way.. Most people get confused with one thinking it envolves the other.. I used to till I thought about it for a while... Now if you've got a sequential shifter and a sequential transmission YOU ARE GOD!

vosko 01-01-2003 02:05 PM

i just want a sequential tranny. it looks like i want the guru. i wonder if it comes with an upgraded input and output shafts ?

Dragon 01-01-2003 02:25 PM

yes it does.. It comes with the input, output, all gears, all new and stronger shift linkage, a short shifter, and billet lower cover to reinforce the mission case... all you have to do is buy new bearings and seals and put it all together.. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

O' and you need to buy 2 of them and send me one.. :bigok:

vosko 01-01-2003 02:47 PM

COOL!

you really want one i can see LOL

Dragon 01-02-2003 12:08 AM

I've been wanting one forever.. someday it will be mine...

It sure does come with much upgraded input and output shafts, made out of the highest quality billet material. Every component is brand spanking new manufactured of the highest quality.

Re Sequential discussion. With the guru dogbox you only need to use the clutch to take off, then I just "bang" it straight through for shift times in less than 35 milliseconds without touching the clutch. both up and down shifting. With the appropriate computer you can fully flatshift (i.e. not lift off the accelerator at all).

Actually you do not even have to by the bearings or seals, the kit includes a high performance bearing kit (the best quality you can buy) to ensure the best performance as well as a complete sealing kit.

Dragon 01-02-2003 08:42 AM

dude that's bad ass... I didn't know it came with all the bearings and seals... Just those alone will run you anouther $350-400 from Mazda.. That makes it an even better deal... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png :bigthumg:
