You need 1 pickup total for L1 and L2 they both will fire at the same time(wasted spark).you would be able to do this with the trailing except the trailing waste spark would spark ignite the previous cycles air fuel mixture, that is why the spark signal is routed through the cap because the cap and rotor needs to tell each trailing plug when to spark separately(every 180 degrees of cas rotation) ( T1 and T2 fire from the same pickup). So all you really need is 3 pickups, 1 for L1 + L2 and 1 for T1, and 1 for T2.
