aluminum housings?

Maybe its a stupid question, but has anyone ever made or used aluminum housings?

yep. the 110 cosmo engines had aluminium housings, and more recently racing beat made some. the RB ones were around $1200 EACH

I assume the problem is warpage from heat? Otherwise I would think Mazda would have considered going to aluminum, or more people would have done it.

coast is the major factor with them, that and the plating one needs too put on them.

yeah they went to iron because its cheaper

why would you want aluminum? For weight?

The enigne is like the lightest engine there is in any sports car already.

just for fun, does anyone have any pics of a fully functional motor using the racing beat housings? i've heard people talk about them i don't know how many times, but have never seen them used.

They use them on aeroplane engines mostly.

And they arent as durable as cast iron ones.
