Are all the second gen coils the same? Can I take them from an N/A car or TII and put them straight on my FD? Do I need the ignitor, too?



I've got no trailing spark right now and bad breakup by 3500 rpm. I know it's not the ignitor, cause I swapped in another one with the same results. It's a lot easier to find a second gen in the junkyards around here and they're supposed to be stronger. Can I still use the FD ignitor?



If I had the cash I'd be getting 2 DIS-2's and 4 DIS coils from MSD, but that's some serious scratch!!

 

i'm in the same predicament.... was breaking up @ 15psi... now its running shitty at 10psi



i might go FC coils or i might just say F IT and get all new MSD stuff

 

So, are they a drop-in (electrically), or are we just whoring through here?

 

Are coils that expensive? I picked up a dual post coil from a hachi-roku for $100~...nevery had problems again. It only fires my leadings though, but that's all I needed

 

honestly i don't know.... it shouldn't be that hard a few people have them on the car. the connector is different of course

 

the fc coils are all the same, 86-91. the fc coil packs have the ingnitors in them, but its all modular so you can use the fd ignitor, with the fc coil.

Borrowed a set of FD coils to test the system first.

 

Vosko, you better have a look at your coils. Both my trailing coils were split open, I can only wonder about the condition of the leading coil...

 

dammit.... 10-4.... good thing i have a spare set of FD coils... i just remembered. now to find them in the garage of death!
