so about 2 years ago i built up a 83 for a fella with a new mazda reman 12a and a racing beat holley intake and carb. ever since the engine was started and there hasnt been many miles on it mind you there has been a funny hesitation at around 2300 to 2700 rpm load dependant. all day yesturday i messed with all the settings on the carb and cannot get this hesitation , sometimes a flat out stall for a split second , gone.

anyone else run into this problem on a non ported 12a with a non ported holley kit? is this a normal thing or am i missing something. i played with timming, all settings on the carb, car idles smooth as glass at 1000 rpm, free revs very responcive, and with no load on the motor does not have this issue, only when driving.

anyone anyone?????????????

If it were a Weber I would say you need to re-jet. My Weber seems to do similar when I have too small an idle jet compared to the main jet size.

I dont know if there is anything you can do to a Holley to adjust mixture other than jetting.

Hook up a vacuum gauge and see what the maximum vacuum is once you set your idle. The power valve should be somewhere around 2-2.5 less than the max vacuum. You did not mention if it is vacuum secondaries or mechanical. If vacuum then ty a softer secondary canister spring.
