so i inherited a car that has sat for over a year. and now its going to be my only form of transportation for awhile. and i also need to get a new power steering belt since mine is torn to ****.

work done so far:

new battery

coolant (was empty)

oil (was empty)

spark plugs (old ones were incredibly fouled)

plug wires

distributor cap and rotor

total cost: $120

any other things you guys suggest doing to it? (other than replacing filters)

Brake fluid. Bleed the brakes for the hell of it. Then take to inspection to see if it needs rotors, brakes, or shocks? How strict is California for safety inspection. I know it's the strictest for emissions. Maryland is strict for both.

California is about as strict as you're going to get with emissions.

umm, would'nt you want the power steering? you are not racing it Eric, that would make the car much easier to drive. not having power steering is a PITA.

yeah, i know that. but my truck's power steering pump is going out right now, and it's a huge pain in the *** maneuviring that behemoth. i am sure the maxi would not be too bad though.

is it stick, or autotragic?

I think the early nissan maxima was RWD not FWD and shared drivetrain with the Z's of that era. Straight six if I remember correctly.
