Nah, it is most definately the golf platform, which incidentally is called "A4", but it underpins the VW golf, VW jetta, audi A3 and TT, and a few other seats and skodas. The Audi A4 actually rides on the VW group's B5 thru B7 platform, shared with the VW Passat. So in a way, you're right, it is riding on platform A4, but that platform is not also underpinning the Audi A4.
I figured it must be FWD since you didnt mention it having quattro, altho on closer inspection, that little silver strip in the grille in the first two pics should say quattro, i missed that the first time thru.

umm... the S4 isnt built on the golf platform. nor is the A4. the VW group has a platform called "A4", and it underpins the VW Golf, VW Jetta, VW New Beetle, Audi A3, Audi TT, Seat Leon, Seat Toledo, and Skoda Octavia. Now the Audi A4 (referring to the car itself, NOT the golf platform) is built on the B5, B6, and B7 platforms (depending on which year), and is shared with the VW Passat and similar Seat and Skoda models. So its not calling an S4 a golf anymore than it would be calling an FD a miata. They are on completely different platforms.
