Unveiling Of New Miata
#25
I've always loved miatas, and this new incarnation looks the best so far to me. But it IS much larger than the previous version. If it only gained 10 kilos then I guess it's a lot more open chassis design with more weight savings.
One of the main factors driving the size of the miata is saftey standards rising. Mazda knows that a huge chunk of miata fans are in the USA and over here in america saftey standards are on the size due to the onslaught of SUV sales.
For what the miata is, I think it's kool. Mazda might have a hard time putting a rotary in a miata due to emissions. Not saying it couldn't me a managable level, but each company must maintain a certain emission average. This is why the corvette has such high emissions, becuase the GM branches have enough low emission seadans and such that average out thier performance cars. Mazda doesn't have such a luxury, so every car much meat a decent level of emissions.
If mazda could figure out how to put dual cats on a rotary without heat issues i'm sure they would. Personally I'm not a huge fan of the renesis becuase they don't offer a factory turbo, thus expecting us to believe it's a NA only engine, wich the rotary isn't that good at.
Oh yea... about the S2k being unbalanced.... well, you know they changed the suspention set up last year right? Aparently everyone raves about it now. And the Amuse S2000 "touge monster" is one of the fastest cars right now for mountain driving. The S2k with proper tuning is one of the meanist cars on the street, a true testament to honda's racing prowess. Lets just see what happens now that the japanesse manufactures are alowed to go over 300hp.

Yeah it is called a Lotus. Only they only had 1.3 liter engines. The miata still holds to its basic roots and although the S2000 may sport a larger engine and boast more power it is also a less balanced car.
I can't think of any Lotus with a 1.3 lite engine - certailny not in the last 20 years?
