So, I'm just throwing an idea out.. I've been looking at Porsche's recently, and I've found some '99 996's (Carrera) with higher miles that are dirt cheap.. For instance, I located a blue 996 coupe with 104k on the clock for $24,900. I'm wondering if anyone's heard anything at all about reliability and maintanance costs for Porsche's 50k+ miles old?

They are expensive to maintain. I don't know too much about Porsche reliablity except that I see a lot of old ones on the road. I would recommend getting a Volvo as a back up reliable vehicle if you are to own an rx7 and a german vehicle.



That said, there is nothing quite like driving german vehicles when they are running well and if you can work on them yourself then you can save some money. Good luck, show us pictures when you get one

I'm asking if a german automobile is less expensive to maintain than the combination of a Bravada with 218,000 miles on it and an FD.

i would say that the maintanence is quite similar to an FD. Sports cars are always going to be expensive to maintain, you can argue the reasons all day, whether it be the high performance characteristics or the driving habits of most owners, but the reality is sports cars are expensive to buy, expensive to maintain and fun to drive and fun to be seen with, but enough about super models, what were we talking about again?

u need to decide what you want the car for, if you want a reliable car that is inexpensive to maintain, go down to the toyota dealer, buy yourself a yaris and move on with your life.



If you want to look like studmasterflex and drive fast, etc, etc.... then stop worrying about maintanence costs and look into the sports car you want.

I guess I want a car that's not going to need new ball joints every 10k miles, or a new motor every 50k miles. I guess I'm not as concerned with parts breaking as how often they tend to break.. Given that I'm not too terribly hard on my cars, of course.



Edit: It's about the labor, not the cost... Assuming the cost is not outrageous...
