I know how to read them. Post the #'s that were cast in the block (not stamped, so the numbers you want are raised) that are on the back of the block on the passenger side of the engine, where the tranny bolts to block. Then, on the passenger side of the engine in the front, there will be a pad with some #'s stamped in there. Post them, I can decode to best of my ability. I'll be able to see if its a 350, 305, what it's most likely from, etc.

i think i figured it out, the block is a 1970 year, 350 2 bolt mains, was on a turbo 350 tranny, 2bbl, found out how to read block codes on from a website. if im wrong correct me, thanks for the help.

.060 over is the upper limit

2 bolt mains aren't bad, just add splayed caps if you need more strength.

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png I've buildt a few sbs and I've been helping my Pop build a bbc. It takes quite a bit to get a sbc to put out those numbers money wise. You will be pushing it on a 2 bolt main with power over 300 hp./ 300 ftlb The casting of the block just isn't as good. Yes you clould do it but risky. better off spending the cash on a 4 bolt block. The block will be the same from 350 to 305..the stroke will be dif.. if its .30 over be safe and take it to .40 over. you eliminte any scoring in the cylinder heads. if you can port match the intake manifold to heads. You would be suprised on how many poeple have square port heads and oval manifold ports.

300 ft lbs your dreaming man

i have seem the 2 bolt motor saw themselves in half in stock form. get a bowtie block

sleeperRX7 02-27-2004 10:40 PM

300 .lbs of torque is easy, 1970 was a good year for a sbc block, the motor stock had 250 hp in whatever car it was in, i am adding 4 bolt main caps. this motor will be built slowly by the best manufactorers products, my manager's show car is only a 2 bolt main sbc 350, hes putting down 475 hp to the wheels and its a rat motor, he just knows his ****, this guy (john haws) is a very gifted motorhead, but if he only was into rotaries https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/boink.gif its not like im going to rev to 7 or 8 grand in first gear or neautral, the motor will be bolted to a t-56 6 speed manual tranny, when i say built, did i mention my manager has tortured the hell out of his, runs like a top.

maybe ill add 6 bolt main caps or is that a totally different gen of the sbc block?
