I've met a few who are far from friendly.

the only 944 worth the money/trouble is the turbo model, those can really scoot.

i just noticed, you have a mullet....
haha...if the picture was clearer you'd notice that "mullet" is actually my passenger's face...his facial color blends in with my hair...

although I always wanted to grow a mullet...maybe i'll work on that...no more bleached hair though [/quote]

hahaha never noticed it was someone else. i too thought u had a mullet

well today i met a guy who has an 87 924. its a little smaller than the 944 but has the same drivetrain. 500 pounds lighter too. he told me all about them, he said they were the most reliable cars next to lexus. his has 115000 mi and its on the stock clutch. the original paint looks better than a lot of new paint i see. he said the only thing is the timing belts, but told me exactly how to do it, and its not that hard. he said to have a shop do that its about 1300 but to do it yourself its about 40 bucks for the two belts. i talked to the guy for about an hour, he was really cool. after we talked about his we talked about mine. he didnt know what a rotary was so i got to explain that. he didnt know anything about turbos so i explained that. it was cool and i got to work 30 mins late bc of it! at the end he offered me a straight up trade for his car, and it was almost in perfect cond., i would have done it if it had been a 944.

those cars are great. my friend/bozz/owner of the restaurant tha ti am the chef at has had both, among his 6 porsche's...

the 924 and the 944 have the same engine too. the 944 has the cut out gt style wheel wells and is a little more colling and handling related.

the car that dan has is the 1989 944 [951 actually] turbo. in '89, all of the turbos were the turbo "S" models of the 3 years prior.

he has dumped more than 43K into the car since he bought it 2 years ago. he is on the 3rd motor, and actually got it back about 2 weeks ago. he had the engine re-re-re done by pat williams motorsports in memphis. he used to build the cup racing motors and was a pit crew chief. he had the enging stroked to 2.8 liters and had the stg III turbo buit and now the car dynos at some 515 ft/# torque @ 17 psi on 103 gas....pretty impressive......

he races and trains me on the car in PCA events and is a PCA instructor as well.....

his 924 was a great car, and its handling reminded me of my fd. it is however, underpowered with that n/a 4 banger, but was very light and he used to whip my *** when i was driving my '96 300zx around....

just thought i would share that.....

louis

I've always heard that Porsche and Jaguar where expensive cars to maintain, or rather, more so than the cars we drive...
