Just finished watching SpeedTV aka speedvision's tuner transformation.

Usually taht show is a sticker brake caliper painting show but whatever.

This time they showed a mini copper S getting the John Copper Works package from a local dealership. THey also isntalled a limited slip.

At first i thought they were installing the zexel torsen unit. But they installed this instead.

What the hell is this?

They dropped the subframe, removed the half shafts, removed the tranny, opened the tranny up, removed the diff unit, and then slipped this thing in and bolt it back up.

hrm....

Quote from local Mini tuning shop for a LSD?

$1200 for LSD unit

$1800 Labor

Its a very pricey mod. And while you could do it yourself it is a very very involved procedure.

The only thing I do not like about my Mini is the lack of an LSD. It really limits the cars abilities in corners.

but jim, is the 1200 dollar one the zexel torsen unit? or is it the one i posted? I'm skeptical about the one i posted.

Looking at what they had to do. It doesn't look too bad... a little more involved than doing a clutch job for a FC rx7.

If you are reffering to the two plates inserted in between, the spider gears it is a Phantom Grip, quite a nifty little invention by John Brown.

Oh! Your talking about that little piece they slip in there.

I am no expert but I will go with common sense in this. You get what you paid for. Would I install it? No I will save up and get a real LSD unit.

i wonder how it works exactly.

The website claims over 120,000 kms of tested use.

I wonder if that is 100 cars that tested 1200 kms each.

Jim u need to get the zexel torsen unit.
