i just went to mazda's website and looked at the Mazdaspeed Protege. that thing looks awesome 170hp turbo 2.0l with a garrett T25 turbo, intercooler, racing hart rims, yadda, yadda. all it need is a reprogrammed ecu and downpipe and midpipe and that thing should have around 220hp! i want to see how much they are supposed to sell for. i'm real interested in a fun daily driver!!!!!!!

It looks just like another MP3 Mazda.

Personally I'd prefer a Hyundai:

Take a 2001-2003 Elantra (140 HP STOCK) for under $11,000

Add this body kit for $1500

Add either a supercharger or Turbo charger...

SuperCharger Kit

Turbo Kit

And you have one hell of a great car for at least $5K less than the Mazda with 30-50HP more. (Turbo puts out 220 and SuperCharger about 205).

Did I mention the 10 year 100,000 warranty?

Well I guess you can guess what my daily driver is...

one problem with that as soon as you do one thing to that car that 10 year 10,000 mile waranty is gone!

Well the first thing I did was remove my logo's that they plastered all over the car. Luckly they are just glued on.

The 140 2.0 liter in these are are designed in a joint venture with Mitsubishi. I don't know what parts cross over but I know one owner that has put a Mitsubishi Talon Turbo motor under his hood.

Compact Sports Car did a test for the ultimate car. Anyone read that?

There's a guy from Texas with a Tiburon (Same 2.0 motor) that he turbo'd and then droped a 2nd motor in the back to make it AWD. Each motor has over 300 HP (No Intercooler, Nothing Fancy). It was by far the fastest of the group. Both motors are backed with automatics. The car ran a 11 sec 1/4 mile.

Sure modifing any car will void the warrenty, but no other manufacure even comes close to backing what they build with a warranty like this.

Glad you like your car, and no one should "put it down", I think the warranty is a way of getting people to buy it, Volkswagon does have the same warranty though, a warranty you never have to use is the best. The resale still kinda sucks on those cars, and if you were to put 2 300 hp engines in any car, it better be fast or you wasted your time- again, everything comes around again- people were putting 2 engines in MINIS way back in the 60's.

I think some of you are missing the point of Mazda's new creation. You can find several cars that you can add FI to and get more power for likely less mula, but the Mazdaspeed Protege is one of the best handling cars out there...not a bad achievment for a FWD.

BTW, vosko..I talked with the Mazda guys where I was tryin to get a job, and they said the Mazdaspeed protege will be priced anywhere from about 16K to 24K...they really didn't know yet. It's possible that a base model will go for less then 16K...we'll have to wait and see. I might have to get one as a "reliable" daily driver...

It had no intercooler cause it was running alchohol. But yeah, that car was cool.
