Lol, I got some little goodies for the Daily Driver winter-mobile...

New K&N drop in and the AEM throttle body spacer...I was gonna go w/ the full AEM kit, but cancelled the order after going around w/ my buddy on some trails and seeing how nasty the engine bay gets... open air filter element? no thanks!! I'm not about to clean that thing every week!

The drop in filter and spacer should net another 4-6hp or so ..maybe even an extra couple ftlbs of torque too! I'm mainly doing it for the MPG...see if i can nudge another 1-2MPG outta this beast!

I'll have pics and install **** tonight after I get outta work!

One320B 02-23-2006 08:27 PM

Ridiculous! They sent me the 4cyl 2.5 air filter... I mean COME ON, who buys a 4cyl JEEP!!

Anyways, I installed the TB spacer in all of 10 minutes...very simple install on the JEEPs and first impressions were awesome... even that LITTLE black box basically makes the jeep run so much smoother. I wonder why they didn't do that from the factory! As for HP...probably a few extra ponies, not much though..I'm just loving the throttle response throughout the gears..

When I get the new air filter in there I'll start recording my MPG just to see what it is now.. I used to get about 350 miles to the tank w/ mostly highway and some city driving...

Here are some pics....

One320B 02-23-2006 08:27 PM

You can easily see the size dif in the 4.0L 6cyl vs the 2.5L 4cyl air filters!

One320B 02-23-2006 08:29 PM

More pics...

rowtareh 02-23-2006 09:02 PM

Sweet! I have the AirAid CAI w/ K&N cone filter. I was more impressed by throttle response than the few extra hp and lbft. Plus it sounds like a 4 barrel carb.

Waiting for tax return to do 3" Black Diamond lift, and getting some GY wrangler MTR 31" tires. Gonna be sweet man!

One320B 02-23-2006 11:13 PM

You putting the 31"s on stock suspension? I was told that's the biggest you can run before lifting..or do you plan to run 31s after the lift?

I'd love to get some larger tires under my jeep... but first, I've gotta get the right air filter, lol.

I am running 31's right now, but they are not as wide. You can run them, but at low speeds, you get a little bit of rubbing. It's not very bad, but it is noticeable. And yes, I plan on 31's, or 33's after the lift. Gotta also buy another rim for the spare, which is a pain in the ass, maybe I can find some cheap ass steel rim for the spare, and just slap the same tire on as the regulars. Rims I have are the American Racing Polished Nitro. 16x7's I believe, but it may be a 15". I forget. Also doing rock crusher side steps after that. I would love to do a 6" lift, but that's about 4 times as much as the 3" black diamond lift.

Kind of funny, we are the only ones posting on this thread. Jeep haters man!

teknics 03-01-2006 05:14 AM

bah dont go with a 3" lift, if you just step up to a 4" lift you can fit 33x12.5 tires easily, and then it takes on a very mean stance, i should know i had one.

and if you have an extra $100 you can addon a 1-2" body lift (they cost, seriously, like $80) slap that between the body and frame and with the 4" lift plus 1-2" body l;ift you can run 35x12.5 which is a really mean looking setup.

whatever you do, DONT BUY PACESETTER HEADERS.

oh and if youre saying "im not gonna buy headers at all" Numero Uno problem on stock jeeps? the exhaust manifold rusts through and begins leaking inside the engine bay. I melted my Cam and crank sensors when my exhaust leak started. headers are like preventive maintenance.

oh and when you get a lift, get quick sway bar disconnects, it makes a HELL of a difference offroading.

i know tons about jeeps, btw, possibly more then i know about rx7's.

kevin.

One320B 03-01-2006 07:36 AM

Lol, way to go teknics...i knew we had more jeep guys in here!

I'm not really into to offroading my jeep that hardcore, but I do use it around my parents farm and some local camp trails, so I'd like to get up to at least a 30" tire..I may do 31" w/ a 1" body lift to prevent any rubbing... I love the fact that the body lift is under $100..it's awesome. Even most suspension lifts are w/in budget around $200 to $500 ...crazy.

I still haven't got the right air filter yet though after they sent me the 4cyl version.... so once I get that swapped in, I'm doing a dynomax catback and tires when I need them (stockers still have good tread)...

I <3 you kevo!! You are right though, I did not even realize that. And headers can seriously wait a while, I only have 9200 miles on it.

But first, gotta get it running again, go to General Discussion to see why.

One320B 03-03-2006 03:33 PM

Well I got my confirmation today on the new order for the correct air filter. Overall I'm not OVERLY please w/ 4wd.com... i mean, the site never asked for the engine size during checkout, etc... and then I had to pay for shipping back, get charged $2 more for the larger filter and then another $12 in shipping for the new one. I think it should have been a straigt up swap...but whatever. i'll have to rethink using them again...

BTW, I have 12,xxx on mine...damnit, lol.. i thought i was doing good w/ mileage on an '05...

jose13b 03-03-2006 05:55 PM

show pics of the jeep

I have two vehicles to drive, and my commute is only 15 minutes one way. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

One320B 03-05-2006 07:02 PM

Lol. I live 7 miles from work...and i have 3 cars to drive... but for some reason lately..the jeep gets the most work, oh yea.. its winter time!

I'll put up some pics of my jeep, but its nothing special..its my stocker daily driver for winter time!

One320B 03-05-2006 07:05 PM

Here are some...the first one is from the first week I owned it... the others are just running around some property at my parents place...

Ahhh, good ol' light khaki. Gotta love it. You in maryland, or VA? looks like md plates. hard to tell.

One320B 03-06-2006 02:58 PM

VA... I'm in the DC area now, but I'm probably moving back south an hour so..same town as those pics are taken... the northern virginia rat race blows...

Haha, I am about 30 mins south of DC. Never knew you were close by. Should go mudding one time when my jeep gets fixed.

Oh, PCM unit is fucked, so they are replacing it. Gotta love warranties. 700 dollar part. EEEP!

Rob x-7 03-06-2006 06:58 PM

here is mine

Where abouts are you....do you know where culpeper/fredericksburg is?

One320B 03-06-2006 07:17 PM

Didn't know you had a jeep rob...looks sweet! Yours is a toy, lol..i dont have the funds to make a toy out of mine and the rx7 at the same time...gotta unload some cars first! Might be getting another rx7 too...first gen this time!

Rob x-7 03-06-2006 07:23 PM

I had a 1st gen as my first RX7, it was like a pet, great car

you could easily daily drive a FC or a 1st gen no problem as long as you keep it pretty stock, keep the AC in it too!

I have a old cherokee too!

another of the jeep CJ, excuse the crappy pic, the shop lights were not on

Of course I do. Got some nice trails down there??? I live in Southern MD, and there is really no trails around here. I want some type of trail with rocks, logs, water, mud etc. All we have is just mud and one stupid hill.

Rob has a cj-7, I hate rob right now. I want his jeep. BADLY!!!

Rob x-7 03-06-2006 07:28 PM

did I mention how full coverage insurance on the old CJ costs me only $76 for the year?

One320B 03-06-2006 07:34 PM

Lol, now I hate you... my insurance is way over that....a month! I'm also younger, owe on it, and don't have a perfect record, lol.

The only actual sanctioned trail is the county south of me..I haven't made it out there...but it's supposedly pretty good.

This first gen I might pick up is a buddy of mine's who doesn't have the time/resources to bring it back to life, but doesn't want to see it rot either.. he is holding on to it tooo...I think he knows I'll fix it up, but doesn't want to let it go,lol... no AC though...GS. I'd use it as a daily driver to replace the eclipse... clean it up...nothing crazy, my FC takes enough of that money out of me...

Rob x-7 03-06-2006 07:38 PM

mine was a GS, I think the only option it had was AC, that worked VERY well might I add. If you get one with original freon in it will blow ice cold.

Not supposed to use my Jeep for offroad, but as long as I dont put a claim in who cares, I just wanted insurance so I could drive it.

Got them to put my convertible under classic insurance as well https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/cool.png

One320B 03-06-2006 08:04 PM

I'm waiting to see how the rx7s insurance pans out...

This GS had nothing but a sunroof, lol. My buddy put the gsl rear suspension/disc brakes and lsd in it w/ some tokico shocks about two years ago and it's sat since then.... has some rust on the front fenders and door...its not perfect, but i think I can clean it up enough to drive safely every day...

Rob x-7 03-06-2006 08:13 PM

my RX7 is under $100 for the year as well, full coverage aggreed value

rowtareh 03-06-2006 08:56 PM

well gee, it must be nice being OLD rob!!!!! hehe, j/k.

insurance is expensive for the jeep, but just liability alone when i had my 88 was the SAME AMOUNT as the jeep is. and jeep is full coverage. wtf???

Rob x-7 03-07-2006 05:48 AM

you only have to be 25 to get classic insurance

One320B 03-07-2006 08:04 AM

Yep, few more years and my Rx7 will qualify for classic too...insurance will probably be cheap anyways since it never gets driven (only raced)

Baldy 03-07-2006 09:13 AM

Someone offered to trade me their '93 wrangler for my motorcycle. I was wanting to get an ATV. Should I just stick with the plan and get the ATV, or go with the jeep? I'm looking for just a fun machine. I'm thinking the jeep might cost to much to upgrade/maintain/etc.

One320B 03-07-2006 10:37 AM

I had/modded ATVs before I got into cars... aftermarket on an ATV can be ridiculous too..just like w/ motorcycles...they charge it, because you'll pay it..that type of thing. Either way, you don't need insurance on the ATV, it takes up less gas, and is easier to store, lol. However, you cant take it down the road...and getting it from one ride spot to another is a pain. You'll have to figure out what you want more... some trails only allow ATVs, some only TRUCK/JEEP vehicles...some both...its all in your location...

Baldy 03-07-2006 10:41 AM

Oh, location, I live pretty much right on the Apalachicola National Forest, I can get an ATV in the forest without trailering it.

rowtareh 03-07-2006 02:25 PM

Baldy, matters what kind of wrangler it is. If is lifted, 350swapped, big tires and rims, etc. It might just be worth it.

ATV's are fun, but having the jeep and being able to throw the top down and just cruise is fun.

Rob x-7 03-07-2006 05:14 PM

grundy took my 1988 as a classic car

jc taylor as of October will accept my 1988 as a classic as well.

they still go by the pictures you send them, have to have all drivers over 25 years of age, have a daily driver car less then 10 years old, keep the car in a garage, clean license, etc....

rowtareh 03-07-2006 08:24 PM

hmmm, i wonder if all agencies are like that though. the age criteria itself. i am buying an 84 -se soon, and it will rarely be driven, and i have the jeep and ford.

Rob x-7 03-07-2006 08:43 PM

they would not let me get the policy when my gf was not yet 25, depending on the state they can get strict with it.

One320B 03-07-2006 10:00 PM

How was grundy... I was looking at them for my FC. Sucks about the age though ...I'm about 3 years away :(

Rob x-7 03-07-2006 10:12 PM

I have the convertible with grundy, and the jeep with JC taylor.

Grundy would not take the jeep.
