Our money situation (hopefully) is changing real soon, so of course the first thing we do is look at new cars. For the money, the Mazda 5 sure does offer a lot. I love it, the 6 seats, all the space, the incredible array of standard safety features, the broader torque band than the 3, the nice suspension, all that stuff.

The only thing I thought was weird was when I got in the driver seat. I'm about 6'4". I slid the seat all the way back, and my knees still touched the dash (just barely, but still touching). I wasn't even slouching. Everything else about the car is awesome, and that's probably the car I'll buy when it comes time, I just thought that was strange. I've sat in miatas and several rx-7s and other cars; usually when the seat is slid all the way back there's enough room. This was just strange. Oh, and no leather is offered at all (though our dealership's wife drives one with leather, he had it installed after the factory).

This was in the sport trim level, maybe the touring has more seat adjustments? An up/down adjustment might've helped.

i dont know what dealer you go to but we have 10 mz5s on the lot and 4 have lether in them. as far as the power plant. it is unchanged from the 3 they both share the same 2.3lt vvt motor. and there is 2 things i didnt like and i forsure voiced my opinion when i PQIed the vehical, wich was the shifter area was real plane with out the navy buttons, should be blacked out i.m.o. instead of silver and the second is its too tall. it resembles a suzuki areo wich i do not like one bit. but the mz5 is a blast to drive with a 5 speed.

Mazda stated (and motor trend also verified) that it is the same power train, albeit with less horse power and a broader torque band. And on the website there is no leather available, so maybe they just left it off the "build a car" thing, I dunno.
