OKay... I have issues with my ford.. actually I am down to one or two..

One the Speedometer does not work, and two my dash lights do not work...

Anyone got any ideas what it might be?

Thanks in advance.

the problem is obviously that its a ford, and an old ford at that... get a different car :-)

But seriously, what type of ford is it? an old truck, a mustang, what?

Well if you've read my other posts "4x4's" you'd know.

It's a 77 Ford F150 Short box with a 351M in it.

And for a truck that's approaching 30years old.. it's in really good mechanical shape, exceppt for the blasted speedo. That I cannot figure out. Also as with anything this old. a few little wiring issues.

its only a cable from the speedo to the transmission, check it to see if its there and if its spinning, the gear in the transmission might be stripped, or the speedo itself might be stripped.

if its attatched to the transmission you can take the speedo out and drive the car and see if the cable is spinning or not. sometimes they need to be greased.

I checked the speedo gear itself, and it look no worse for wear then a new one... I've had the cable out and watched it.. and it doesn't spin... it's a Brand new cable. The gears not new.. But I think it's something in the Transmission that's wrong with it. The drive gear itself.

Edit: Forgot to add.. I can spin the speedo gear itself and watch the speedometer jump, which is why I think it is internal on the transmission.

ok then, its internal in the transmission. May want to ask a transmission shop if its a big deal to fix, otherwise- get a tach and use that to determine engine speed, which is what I would do.

Really only need to know 30-40-55mph incremints.

I would do that, except that I need it to pass Out Of Province Inspection, and it needs a working Speedometer.

For some reason or another I need to have a working Speedometer. For whatever reason. It's part of the out of province inspection thus I need it to insure my truck here in Alberta. Just like I need a floor..... lol well a full floor not a .... partial floor.

its just that no official would REALLY know if it worked, see if the guy will pass it anyhow, unless its like some super strict state inspection thing.

tell him the parts are obsolete and you have been looking for used ones.
