I think it is fair to say....The era of fast turbocharged car is over. We will no longer see cars like the 300zx, supra or Rx-7. Not sure why but looking at all the concept cars worries me. Just look at the cars with turbos now....

VW's.....Neons.....And PT CRUISER!!!!! Its just sad

all the evo 8 is is a heavier underpowered , ugly front end evo 7..... its sucks that people will get it and think its the **** and not know how to drive it...or think that it is a true evo...WHEN ITS NOT... they added hundreds of pounds to it removed the selective diff. and added more emissions crap to it... why because the gov. actually tested the car and the rated 276-280 hp was more like a little over 300 and that they didn't like then they decided that it didnt have enough front end impact resistance...boom more weight..then went the lovely selective diff...why they say to lower price...me thinks to remove the temtation to use those neat little sport settings.....and that ugly *** front end? someone is high...granted its nice to get an evo here but it aint no evo 8...the whole evo concept was the evolution of the lancer..hence lancer evo.. each one being better than the last in some way be it a little bump in hp..and tq..or suspension..this so called 8 is a step back not forward..now that i'm done bashing it I'll talk some good about it...first all that needs to be done is remove that restrictive exh and add a good down pipe and free flowing exh 3 inch... remove the cats with a test pipe..a good electronic boost cont.. replace that shitty turbo and replace it with the intended turbo...the titanium twin scrool add a turbo timer and a good coil over suspension and you will be golden..hell the bug plus was that that car spike at 19psi then drops down that shows that that thing will be one good preformer with little tweeking...have that boost controler hold the boost at 15 psi that good exh better bov. and you'll have that thing preforming very well..but no way worth 40k... espacally when the sti will be sold here for 30k..but if I was going to spend 30k on a car it be a skyline R-32

Midnightdriver - You are dead right about that ugly (looks like it was designed by Pontiac) nose. There is no shadowy government plot to stifle this car from being as badass as it can be. It didn't gain hundreds of pounds over the Evo 7. They've been gaining weight over the years and they continue to get better in spite of the weight. It's better than the WRX (it's only market competition) is and that's saying a lot. Kudos to Mitsubishi for finally having the sack to sell such a low volume car. It won't sell that many units compared to their other models, but it will be a great image car. So what if they lowered the power a bit? Who is going to leave it stock anyway? It already has lhandling limitations that most drivers won't ever master so who is going to miss that AYC? Especially if you've never driven one withh that setup. It'd be nice to have a choice, but that's not going to happen. It'll be worth the money to some and not others. It's all relative.

Plus, you wouldn't spend $40k on a $30k car, but would spend $30k on an old used/abused car that is less than $10k in it's home market but has been marked up far beyond belief? Get this - the $18k Skyline GTS-t that Motorex sells is about $2k~$3k in Japan and it's not much for performance compared to a stock turbocharged S13 chassis.

jerk racer...I'm well aware of the skyline prices I lived in japan for 3 years and bought my R-32 for 3500 tuned already. and read the motor trend that has the lancer 8 in it and the superstreet and other import mags that have the 7 in it the 8 is around 200 lbs more. even the motor trend mag says that its a few hundred pounds heavier...but i'm just picking it apart venting you know..hahah and I love the x-files kind of angle hahah cuz I'm an *** and work for them...

you are also right about it gainging pounds over the years...and I agree that its better than the wrx we got here and in canada.. but either way a choice would be good...I'll try to dig up that mag and post what it says so there are no mistakes...and motorex will legalize a skyline that you find over in japan an buy..but you pay the shipping and the 16k fee to legalize it...which is much better than the 20k they wanted in 99 when I left japan...I cryed when I sold that thing

Where were you? I left Japan in '98 after being there over four years. I was in Okinawa. I thought that it was the end of the good Evo's when the Evo5 was released and it had gained about 100kg over the Evo4 which at the time was my favorite. I was wrong. It sucks that the Evo will have to lose the AYC because of evaporative emissions, but look on the bright side - what was available just a few years ago. Wait for five years and there'll be some good deals on cars that would be sweet for a build up.

They can out lap a stock S2000, a stock WRX and a stock 350Z (road and track data)

I would certainly hope it could outlap a stock WRX... the Evo has more power, better tires, and much quicker steering.
