found this on stangnet.... lets see if you guys can identify the motor. I thought it was kind of interesting..... Bet it is pretty frickin fast!!!
scroll down to see... http://forums.stangnet.com/showthr....=106703 its a white FC..... |
Isn't that an engine out of a Buick Grand National?
|
Good eyes!
Yep! a little lighter than a V8 a turbo V6 that seems to make some of those GN's pretty fricking fast!!! |
|
Nice...
But I think the 3.8 turbo design is a bit dated though it makes the power... I like an engine that looks good as well as runs good... though I wont turn down and ugly engine that can give a whooping to someone that they wont soon forget! I am kind of starting to like the idea of a 3.4 V8 Taurus Yamaha V8 in an RX7.... Though I am keeping my eyes open for shots of RX7 motor swaps..... |
If I were to do a V8 swap into my 7, I'd try and find a aluminum block LS1 and a T-56 6 speed tranny. But that might be a bit pricey. http://gnttype.org/nats/96nats/images/rx7.jpg
This guy is running mid / low 11s, and I think that the engine is stock. |
Well I have seen that done... now ...
so I want something different... also a 350 v8 is still going to be heavy... so thats were the 3.4 SHO V8 comes in 235 hp stock and it LOVES to be supercharged! With the rev potential of the motor and a supercharger plus a slight weight gain not much for what it is man it would be nice! |
You should go find yourself a $500 beater rx7 and do something like that. You'd surprise a lot of people, and piss a lot of people off. Then you can keep it ford powerd too! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif

the thought has passed through my mind....
lol never know I could end up with 2 RX7's! An SHO V8 powered FC and a Rotary powered FD! lol man I need to buy a garage not a house!!! |

thought you would like that!

not to be vulgar but... Holy f**king s**t!!! Now that something I hadn't thought of- A Grand National motor in an RX7 !! If I could afford one, that would be in my car! You may piss off a few GN enthusiasts but what the hell? I've always thought GN's were one of the ugliest monstrosities on earth(exaggerating) but I've always had respect for the powerplant.
HMMMMMM (wringing my hands with an evil look in my eyes) wonder where I could find one of those? |
lol
well watch some of that laungauge but you or the langauge filter kind of editted anyway so its fine I suppose... yeah the powerplants are pretty nice but I would be going for something a bit more refined. But you know it makes for a killer power combo..... |

Well it is an old V6 block but it probably weighs a bit less than a V8... but I am sure to the power makes up for it!
|
Its got to be lighter than the 302 I'm planning on putting in my car.
All I can say is ... TURBO... mmmmmmmmmm |
Hey kin just imagine a twin turbo 302!
hahaha.... though all this engine swapping talk has me thinking about trying to do a 3.4 SHO V8.... trick will be trying to find a way of getting a 5 spd for it... unless I can do something with the front drive setup tranny.... lol may have to find a machinist....... |

I wonder if I can shoehorn that into my 7. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif |

Honestly, that is just sick. I've seen that guy moran run at the orlando dragstrip before with an all-motor camaro and he was tearing **** up. Now with four freaking turbos! I need a way to start making better income.
I may never be the same again... Four... jesus, FOUR! |

I had an 81 Buick Regal with the 3.8 V6 non-turbo, why anyone would want that pile of **** 3.8 V6 is beyond me. I had more issues with that motor than any car I have every owned and it only had 36K on it. The rest of the car was quite solid, but the 3.8 was ****. My buddy had a cutlas with the 305 and it was far better vehicle.
|
The turbo 3.8 is a pretty strong and I have heard reliable motor....
305's on the other hand..... eeeww.... hahaha.... |
LOL, I dunno what exactly the diff between the turbo and the non-turbo is, but I am pretty sure the one I had was the aluminum block and it was a pile.
|
Dont know... but I know that 3.8 has been refined over the years and is still in use... More so than ever in Gm's line up!
Almost every model can have the 3.8 in it... there are a few that cant... But it is suppose to be a decent motor... But I have heard good things about those turbos and dont know what major differences there are... but you can bet on the pistons and heads being slightly different and the computer of course being different. |
O.K. O.K. lets not forget that Dodge produced more turbo motors than ANY other car manufacturer,EVER! Don't dispute either that the Shelby GLHS Omni can probably beat most (production)cars on the road. My roomate bought one wrecked and has plans to put it into another Omni. They are widely recognized as a "geek" hotrod, but I DARE you to find a car with that small of a motor and that miniscule of a weight that can compare with most other "stock" turbo cars. They may have the same sex appeal as a VW rabbit but there aren't many cars out there that can compete. Yes it may have been built by the tuning god Carrol Shelby, but really, in comparison... well there is no comparison with what Shelby can do with a machine. To put in in cheeseball hiphop terms "you can't touch this"
All hotrodders and car crafters should strive to make a car with that much power to weight ratio as this little nerd bomb has. GLHS stands for "goes like hell; shelby" by the way... If you can make a near stock sleeper move like one of the Shely's Omni's I will personally be your car slave for the rest of my natural life. It ain't pretty but it'll kick many other turbo cars quarter mile times... can you believe it... look it up Dodge ain't really so bad if you really look close, is it? |
Well what about the GT90 Concept car?
4 turbocharges on a V12! exhaust so hot that had to use the same type or panels on the space shuttle for the back of the car! |
