I myself cant justify spending $30,000 on either of these hot rod

econo boxes.
Especially on the Mitsu, 30k dollars and I get the same POS interior that is on that econo-box commuter they still call a Lancer? Right, I think I am heading straight over to Subaru with that cash.

Ummm, the new Viper beat the Evo in the braking test in whatever magazine that did that head-head contest this month. But that's just splitting hairs.

Everywhere there has been both the Evo and STi in the same market over the years, the Evo always seems to win over the drivers. It's not all just about numbers and parts on a spec sheet. Drivers prefer the Evo over the STi. Why should these two be different?

you can thank the shitty 6 speed gear box in the STi, leave it to them to make a car with more power then then Evo but still be slower because of the vague gear box.
are there 1/4 mi times out yet for the STI?

Easy. STi... no questions asked. Sure the EVO VIII has fancy torque splitting differentials and the most advanced suspension system in the US, but the STi also has not only 300 ponies, but 300 lbs of torque! That's more powerful than the JDM spec STis. About time we got something better out here... I saw the Neon on the Freeway the other day. Sure it sucks, but I'm happy to see American companies getting into the compact car market. It's a much better step up from the supercharger that GM made for the sunfire. A little competition is always good for the better companies.

The SRT-4 shouldn't even be included in this comparison.. its 10 grand less than the Evo and STI. I'm not a domestic car fan but for $20K, I'd buy that thing for brute power and Dodge/Chrysler definitely knows how to build a turbo 4 banger that will last, not only from their own experience, but from previous partnering with Mitsu.

Apollo, how is it sad that the 4G63 is running 12 pounds?? That engine has been around and refined since 1989. Its one of the strongest 2.0's to come out of Japan ever... they can handle 20 psi or more with no internal upgrades... very strong bottom end.
