Ive spent most of my life in (and under) fords. They arent the greatest but they are (in my opinion) the most dependable of the american companies. When they're old they leak and sputter and overheat and sometimes stink but man....they DO NOT stop running. My father used to say they leak to keep from blowing up under torturous conditions. and when it comes to rain and mud and snow I wouldnt drive another brand of V8 or V6. but in extreme heat you have to take a little more care of them, they tend to overheat. But that can always be fixed with a larger radiator.

This question Is actually pretty easy since Ive worked with both of these cars.

The sable will be the more dependable of the two, as in, it will go longer without breaking down ......but.........when it does it will be a little more expensive to fix than the probe. On the other hand. the sable is a little more roomy, but not much. The probe gets better gas milage , But not much better. The big difference is Interchangability. The sable is interchangable with so many cars (and trucks) in the yards today it would be a much easier car to work on. speaking of easy to work on, theres more room under the hood of the sable too....again not much but in that dept. every half inch counts.

But to even it back out, the probe is a sportier car and the mods you can buy for it make it as close to a rice burner as you can get where as the sable would be like souping up a mustang with a six cyl. just aint worth it.

So... for a daily driver Id go with the sable, It will cost you pennies more in the begining but the junkyards will save you hundreds.

Unless you wanna keep it and go sporty later, then the only choice is the probe....but sables with the 5.0 are really nice to drive.

Hope this helps.....but if you can find an auction, get a police edition LTD. Better gas milage , more Power, and an awesome suspension. They are Extremely dependable.

Well, for $900 your choices are some what limited.. but you can always search a little more. I've never been much for probes or sables..

How about an Eagle Talon or Eclipse GSX?Those are pretty cheap and have a stock turbo if its the cyclone motor. They can be pretty damn fast and are the best bang for the buck.Go for it bro!

well. 4rotor. I need DEPENDABLE. and for under $900 I don't think there's such a thing as a dependable Turbo DSM. I could care less about speed as long as the car makes it to 55mph. Besides. I decided I was going to keep my 84 as DD.

Cool

There was no 5.0 in a taurus/sable..there is however a 3.8L (302 CI) from the mercury cougar (it's a pretty strong motor), and the Yamaha v-8 in the SHO (if u can find one, grab it, good sleeper's, tho they don't handle very well, but it's a TAURUS for god's sake) the engine in the Probe can be swapped with one from a Mazda MX-6 and from what i understand there are some decent upgrades for it..I've owned several Fords last coupla years (1987 Escort EXP:CRAP, 1987 Escort GL:BIGGER CRAP, and my g-friend has an 1988 Tuarus GL: not too bad) And besides the Taurus they've sucked, BAD. The Taurus on the other hand is not too bad at all, it was an old lady's car (my g-friends grandparents knew the ppl) well taken care of, no problems except the water pump went out at 110,000 miles but it was the factory one so hey, that ain't bad.......Go for the Taurus, there are thousands of them out there, and ppl will ALWAYS need parts, so if ya get tired of it, sell it, it should sell

Both cars are made by the same manufacturer. The only difference is the name.
