Pinnacle Mazda Announces Raffle to Support Autism Speaks In Honor of Mazda MX-5 Cup Racer, Brett Smrz

RENTON, WA (June 27, 2007) --- Pinnacle Mazda announced today a raffle to raise money for Autism Speaks, an organization with a mission to raise awareness and fund research regarding Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), a disorder that affects 1 in 150 people. The raffle will be in honor of professional driver, Brett Smrz, driver of the #29 Autism Speaks / Team MER Mazda MX-5 in the Sirius Satellite Radio Mazda MX-5 Championship. The young driver recently lost his left leg below the knee due to severe trauma in a sports accident.
“We have wanted to do something to show support for Brett and the MER team while he works his way back to the race car where he belongs,“ said Neil Bryant, Parts Manager at Pinnacle Mazda. “We decided to donate a custom office chair as one of e prizes to the fundraiser and forward the proceeds to Autism Speaks on Brett’s behalf.”
The chair is from Autoart, makers of auto-mobilia and detailed models like the limited edition 1/18th scale model of the Mazda 787b ‘91 Lemans winner. The chair is a stylized race shell mounted on frame with coil over shock absorbers.
“It’s the ultimate race fan’s chair,” continued Bryant. It is valued at over $500.00 and we will ship to the winner.”
Tickets will be sold at $10 each and have a drawing after the August 4th race at Pacific Raceway, the Spec Miata Championship series finale. Participants in that race will all be given one entry and have the chance to buy more at $5 each in an effort to give back to competitors. First place will also receive 5 more tickets, second 3 more and third 1 more. This is to encourage local racer participation. There will also be other prizes to be awarded to all ticket holders after the 1st prize. There will be an update as more of the ‘loot’ is sorted out. The second place draw will receive, at least, a 1/18 scale model of the X-Men RX8.
“We wanted to do something fun for all the participants in the raffle as well as the Spec Miata Racers. The charity is a very worthy effort and most of us know someone or a family affected by Autism. We will present the check to Brett at the final race of the MX5 cup series in Salt Lake City at Miller Motorsports Raceway. Where we hope he is back in the driver’s seat.”
In addition to the race seat, Victory Lane Data is offering a second-place prize to contribute to the fund, an AIM TG 6V Lap-timer (http://www.victorylanedata.com/tg.htm) valued at $249. Victory Lane Data is owned by Roger Caddell, father of 2006 Spec Miata National Champion, Andrew Caddell, a Team MER teammate to Brett.
“Brett and his family have been friends of Andrew and I for several years as well as our teammates in 2007,” said Caddell. ”His great attitude and determination to get back into a racecar after his accident has been a inspiration for all of us. We are proud to help support the Autism Speaks organization he was racing for in 2007.”

Autoart has also promised some extra models as well..
It's for a great cause, an ol Coastie Friend of mine has a daughter with Autism.. it is much more common than most adtvertised "Disease charities" and yet fractional backing. Every little bit helps..
