Does anyone know how to do this? My ASE Certified Brother-in-Law (Who Hates Me) said that I have to "Bench bleed" my new brake master cylinder before I install it into my '80 RX-7. He says that if I don't, installation is a royal pain in the ***... Anyone have a clue as to how to do this?

Not one to contradict an ASE certified mechanic, but for the last 3 master cylinders I've put in 1st gen 7's over the years (different cars, not recurring problem) I've never bench bled them.



However, a quick search on google and I foundthis site.

 

Mine new MC came with little plugs in the holes (where the brake lines would ultimately screw into). I put fluid in the reservior, shoved the business end of a screwdriver against the piston in the MC, and opened the first plug. Fluid came out, so put plug back in before air got in. Then did each plug in line on the MC.



I braced the handle of the screwdriver on my gut and used both handles to fenagle the MC and plugs.
