It has been suggested that we have a different venue for the 2007 Rotor Rally. Here are some of the options that we might have. Any input would be appreciated.
1. Have the 2007 Rotor Rally stay at Apple blossom in Wenatchee and continue with the same venue as the previous years. Classy Chassis, grand parade, dyno, banquet. 2. Have the 2007 Rotor Rally in Moses Lake. Car show, dyno, banquet. 3. Have the 2007 Rotor Rally in Yakima. Yakima race track (racing instead of dyno), Car show, banquet. Any suggestions would be appreciated... |

I like the fact there is lots to do, and I know my way around whenatchee now. Personally I dont think there is anything wrong with previous Rotor Rally. It is definately not broke. Thanks again to all those who donate their time and finances to make this happen. You are appreciated. |
I think that the rotor rally should be in conjunction with another car show weekend wherever it is held. It is more of a carnival atmosphere with a lot of people. I dont think that the 40 or 50 cars that would come to a rotor only event would give you the same boost. That said, it doesnt have to be in wenatchee, only in some area that is already set on having a good time! so, no vote for me, only an opinion. Maybe yakima or Tricities would get more oregon folks to attend with the straight shot up I 84

I really like Blake Qualley's suggestion on RX7Club.
The NW Rotor Rally is an event of Rotary Power Northwest RX-7 Club (RPNW.ORG). I missed the last meeting in Portland, but I wasn't aware this was even under discussion. Has there been any input from the club? My personal opinion is that the event should break away from Apple Blossom and become it's own rotary-specific event...the Northwest version of Sevenstock. Apple Blossom is not very fun, with all the police harassment and the parades/car shows being so lame. One place that may be ideal is Packwood, WA. That's in the middle of nowhere (between St Helens and Mt Ranier) on a back road, so it's a fun trip but not so damn far to drive. And, there is a big mill with a giant, smooth parking lot that they will rent out for weekends at an affordable rate. The SCCA holds autocrosses there from time to time. We could hold a car show, have the dyno there, run an autocross and perhaps other events, like a 200 ft skid pad. I believe you can even camp at the site. We can open the event to other cars, but the focus could remain rotary or at least Mazda. |
I like the idea of it becoming an independant event. I don't however like the idea of packwood. It sounds like they have a spot that would accomadate it, but it wouldn't be very convenient for us east siders. Last years rotor rally was put together, almost entirely, by the INWR, more specifically the codeblues. The concensus then was that RPNW wanted nothing to do with it, and would only help on a very minimum scale, and only at thier convenience. It was said that they wanted the INWR to move into the position of responsibility. I don't think we really mind doing that, with an effective team, but I think we'd be idiots to set it up in a fashion that it caters specifically to the west siders.
No offense intended, but I think in all fairness, it needs to be held at a good halfway point. Brian |
I voted for Yakima because it is closer to me and if my brother in law happens to be on duty there then he has some people to hang out with on free time. Besides Jenkin has got the pool in (right?).]
I also agree with what lake said about Packwood. The roads are very fun, it is not crowded (and once again, I am closer to Packwood). We got a little time to put some ideas together, maybe we could make an entire weekend out of what Corksport did with the Mazda Olympics (I am not sure the type of accommidations available there though). The downside to that is it makes it even further away for the eastsiders. Sounds like Moses Lake would be the best middle ground for location of people going. So I guess basically what I got to there is I don't really care where it is as long as we are going to have one! |
