Hey guys the person that rebuilt my tranny over tightened some of the transmission pan bolts and my gasket cant seal right. Sometime in the past some of the threads were helicoiled in but they werent done well.

Bottomline anyone in the westminster area have the capability to helicoil some bolts? I have no idea what tools are required and I would rather do it with the trans still in the car if possible so I dont have to pull all the lines off.

Brian?? I may just take it up to Westminster Auto or wait till EIP refits my exhaust if they can do it but if I can do it that would be good.

Mike,

Westminster Auto Parts should the helicoils. If not, try AQS auto parts. They are across 140 from the Tractor supply in the industrial park where Battery Wharehouse is located.

I just went into AQS last week and never knew it was there. Big old place.

Aqs Auto Parts

I've also had good luck with the NAPA on Green St.

Good luck.

BTW - if you are around Sat night, Westminster Speed & Sound is having one of there ricer shows in town at on the Longwell parking lot from 8-11pm. I think I'm going to go just to stirr the pot a little with the Midget. I should be there from 9pm-? Stop by. It is only $1 to park on the lot.

There are minimal tools required. drill bit the size that the heli coil asks for and that's about it, a socket to put the bolt back in and yer done, the helicoil kit will come with the little install tool.

since it's a tranny pan and you don't need the same size bolt you could just use a tap and drill the hole, tap it and put a slightly larger bolt in, that is what I prefer to do, I only use the heli coils when her doing something like a spark plug that needs to use the same thread bolt, you'll actually end up drilling less of a hole if you go with a tap.... which might be a good think on a tranny pan, not a lot of room in the casting.

Well there were helicoils in a few holes already so I am hoping that I can get the same size and just install them.

Someone snap the tang off the coils so they werent holding. I put 20ft/lbs and that was too much for the ones that were already messed up. If they dont fit I will just tap the trans instead but they do claim helicoils are stronger than tapping outright anyway.

Hell yes I will head up there on Saturday. I dont have anything going on anyway.

I will be there exhaust leak and primer bumper standing tall!!!

I was wrong, it is $2 to enter.

Hope to meet you there.

Did the heli-coils just pull out, or are the threads on the coils themselves screwed up? You are correct. The coils are stronger but only because you have to drill out the hole so large to get them in and you gain contact area when you do that.

good luck.

After looking at a few of the bolts that were alreayd helicoiled in I found out why they came out. The dumbass that did it never threaded the bolt holes so the helicoils were just slid in mot threaded in.

I got home to late last night to mess with it and I will probably wait until sunday so that there is no doubt I can make it to WSS, I want to see the ricers to laugh at them and check out Brians Midget.
