I see how much you guys talk up there near Fredrick and now that I am going to the track I want to get some people together myself. So if your interested in meeting up with people to head over and race at budds creek then this is the place to post.

I am heading down this Sunday for the test and tune if anyone wants to come out and play.

tcb100 05-02-2004 02:29 PM

In time, FD, in time.

rfreeman27 05-02-2004 02:29 PM

Yeah i'll come out in a few weeks. My car has been progressing at a snail pace lately.

NaughtyFD 05-03-2004 06:27 AM

Me three. Looks like the 75/80 may be making a little road trip here shortly.

Please guys come on down, show me a thing or two. Not to mention I am seriously out numbered down here. Its like 100v8's=1 rotary.

I even saw a FC that was tubbed in the rear with a superchared v8 with the blower sticking outta the hood. It was ridicoulous.

Ah that is right, your rolllin american muscle. No problem come down anyway.

tcb100 05-04-2004 04:31 AM

Dave, did you run? What kind of times?

NaughtyFD 05-04-2004 06:04 AM

Thanks Bobby it is cool that even though you may not agree with the swap you are nice enough to say it looks good.

Yes I may need the slicks too. Hell I havent even mounted mine yet. I honestly think it is going to be next weekend before I am done so maybe you will be ready then too and we can meet up at the track and try out the slicks.

So far I have made two runs. The first was 13.2 @115

the second was worse 14.2@ 105 I am still figuring it out. The secnd run I had a boost leak and was runnig only 12psi. I also bogged at the launch. The first time I went out I spun the tires through my first two gears. Next time I am gonna try to slip the clutch out some. I have been practicing around my house and i think i am better off with this slipping clutch approach. I am running on Nitto drag radials with 15psi in the rears. I belive that if i can get my ass in gear the car will run an 11. Now I won't even try to pretend that means its gonna happen. I hope to get 11's before I take these 99 twins off the car. We shall see

1fastsvn 05-04-2004 08:03 PM

hey i am game. when are you guys meeting up next. i need some driving 101. can't seem to get a good time when i go to capitol raceway.

best time 12.2 on pump gas at 1 bar with 1.89 60' at 115.4 mph. used race gas on the next run and still 12.2 at 114.8 mph with a 1.85 60'. wtf.....i can't seem to get a good burnout to heat up my MT ET Streets. i don't know if it my heavy ass custom system i have in there. kvn this is with a t-78 with stock ports.

You know how to do a standing burnout right?

If you are doing this and you still cant get the car to stay put, install a linelock. It will cost +/- 110 and is easy to do.

Dave, it's addicting aint it! I cant wait to get my https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif on https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

rfreeman27 05-04-2004 09:23 PM

Oh and Kevin, Race gas doesent really add any horespower alone. You could have turned up the boost more with the race gas though.

yeah, with race gas i turned it up to 1.4 bar. when i try to do a burnout i dump the clutch at around 6k and the rear starts sliding around. i might have to do a linelock so i can just sit in oneplace instead of moving all over the place. who wants to help me put one in https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png kvn

Digisan 05-04-2004 10:40 PM

Where is this track located?

TURBOX2 05-04-2004 10:59 PM

Yeah i want to start joining you guys as well....i have never actually had mine on the track for various reasons...so i am sur ei could learn a lot!

TURBOX2 05-04-2004 11:08 PM

Digs--Its at Mir which is in Budds creek maryland and here is a link! http://www.mirdrag.com/

line lock install https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

NaughtyFD 05-05-2004 12:48 PM

Yep I installed a line lock on my car. I wanted it mounted out of the way so I got about 3 feet of brake tubing to route to the line lock but it took me maybe an hour. piece of cake. just make sure you have a good flare tool and that you get a good seal. Brake fluid leaking is a bad thing for your braking and it is very caustic to paint.

Kevin if your car is pulling to the left or right while you do your burn out you need to adjust your tire pressure. I dont know what you set them at with MT's but on my nittos i run them at 15psi. Then you also need to account for your fatass (or mine) and add maybe one or two PSI for the drivers side to compensate. You can try a few settings to see what keeps the car straight.

Yes Bobby it is fun https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif

1fastsvn 05-05-2004 05:03 PM

i run them at 15 psi....neverthought to give more pressure on the driver side. i weight a hefty 180 lbs https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png might do the linelock. i am eyeing the evo mr that will be coming out at the end of the year also as a daily driver/auto xer. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Fd3BOOST 05-05-2004 08:06 PM

I can't remember if you should add or subtract air from the drivers side, try both and see which does the trick. You should get it to work. I weight 215 and I got it to stand straight. What size are your MT's and do you have them on stock rims?

1fastsvn 05-05-2004 09:01 PM

26x10 by 16 on stock rims......i will experiment.

Awesome, thanks for the info.

Just as a general question, most of you guys that track weekly, are you using stock or light flywheels?

rfreeman27 05-06-2004 09:58 PM

stock

Reason i ask is I know that you will get better launches with a stock flyhweel, and i may put my stockon back on this summer.

I've never driven a light flywheel'ed FD, so i cant really contribute.

I'd imagine the launch would be better because of the increased rotational mass, but do the effects of the light flywheel outweigh that after you get goin?

It wants to bog when you try to slip the clutch out. Its ok if you take it up past 5000k and dump it. Also it revs really fast so you can run through the gears faster. Its the bog thing that sucks for drag racing.

Well i launch over 5k anyways so i dont know if it would really make a huge difference.

1fastsvn 05-07-2004 07:45 PM

i have a lightened fly wheel.....i think the 9.5lb one. part of my problem is i think the clutch with less than 5k miles on them is toast (act s/s). https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.png the only problem i think with the lightened flywheel is that as fast as the revs climb they drop faster in between shifts too. kvn

tcb100 05-07-2004 10:30 PM

Mine is lightened. I think there are 2 downsides, a little slower 60 foot time and wearing out the clutch in a huury. I THINK the slower 60 foot time is offset and then some by the rapidity of the wind up. The car revs quicker.

I think the lightweight flywheel has a lot to do with my clutch wearing so quickly. The 7,000 RPM launches of course, are totally innocent.

Dave I think the trick to eliminating bogging is launch higher. I'm not sure that's doable on drag radials. I only tried drag radials one day & I was not impressed. Maybe I will give them a try again this year. Tough to beat ET Streets though.

Yea ultimately I belive that your right Tom.I was out last night "practicing" burn outs and launches on some country roads. I seem to be doing better if i really light the tires up then dump it at 6k or so. It still does not hook up immediately although it's better than before. I will get some mt's but i don't know when. I am in the middle of a single turbo purchase and I will have to upgrade my clutch again(i just bought a act ss no more than 5k miles ago.) So i need to make the best of my nitto drags for the time being.

Did you guys get any of that bad weather last night? Midnight Madness was cancelled down here. We had tornado warnings and reported hail along the potomac and by the 301 bridge.

Yeah it was pretty rough up here.

I think my best 60foot time (1.59) was when i slipped my clutch at 6-7k quickly. It was slower then a straight dump of the clutch, but not a long slip. Ironically after that night my centerforce POS clutch couldnt take any more. The car smelled soooo bad of clutch after that night. I was really pissed off aboutthe car and the way it was running. I was getting Breakup and couldnt controll boost, and still ran a 12.4. If the car wasnt shitting all the way down the track I could have gotten into the 11's.

That was the same night tom ran his 11. It was funny because he was so happy about getting that time and i was so pissed at my car. It got parked after that night and the single turbo madness began https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/boink.gif

Fd3BOOST 05-08-2004 07:11 PM

I'm all set on that tip myself. Im just waiting at this point.
