Default Noob Intro & advice

Hi all,

Here I am de-noobifying myself.

I do not own a rotary at the moment, sad I know, but I am looking at getting one -> which leads to the advice I require.

I live in Cape Town South Africa, my dream, the FD3S was never sold here but there are the few odd imports floating around, otherwise there are some older FB models and the RX8.

I want a rotary, I want a FD3S and I am aware they are expensive. I am also aware that I have other responsibilities as well haha.

So given the "climate" if you will, I am stuck between a RX7 or aRX8.

My thoughts are currently: (based on some research and interwebz exploring)

RX7:
-similar in purchase price to an rx8, least here in SA, just be a much older model (between 93-95 for the most part)
-apparently a more friendly engine to work on if you want to do the work yourself?
-less support locally for parts or anything really
-more thirsty than the RX8
-goes like stink with a good chassis

RX8:
-similar in purchase price to the RX7s around here, would be a 2004 / 2005 model
-I have heard that you shouldn't get a pre 2006 model and also that you shouldn't get a pre 2009 model, I have seen 1 2006 model for sale here, everything else is 04 or 05 models -> not sure how true this is
-more refined engine so easier to maintain that the RX7, but harder to work on when you do need to work on it
-a mix of the engine is not a turbo'd so should last longer than the FD's and also that the RX8 tends to need a rebuild before the FD? not sure which is more accurate
-as the RX8 was sold here and no one seems to like them here either, parts shouldn't be an issue, maybe just price
-still a brilliant chassis

So the advice I'm looking for, bearing in mind the above - which would be the better starting point to get into rotaries with? Are any of my points above either incorrect or irrelevant in terms of FD vs the 8?

Much obliged for any advice/feedback.

Cheers,
Andrew
