Hi all, same old story, friend of the family calls out of the blue says I can come pick up the cosmo I've been bugging him about for 20 years. Its a '76, ran when he parked it in '95, sitting in a very dry part of Arizona. I 've messed around with rotaries a little, but am gonna need some help on this old girl.

Any hints on the best way to fire it up without doing harm, and getting an accurate compression reading are first up, then making it road worthy (brakes, susp, etc), then if the motor is shot, maybe a turbo swap?

I'll post pics asap, thanks for the help, glad to be here!

What kind of shape is it in, sounds like a real score.

Its all original metallic brown on white leather?, with some total 70's rims and a cracked windshield. The guy said he thought the motor was getting weak or losing power so he parked it. I was able to see it a few months ago and besides a few spiders, its actually complete with very little obvious rust. My concern is mostly with finding parts like a windshield, and brake/susp parts.

My plans for the car are clean it up and get it running, then paint and streetport. This is Cali so its gonna need to pass smog. I've wondered about the compatibility of 2nd gen rx-7 brakes, due to parts availability, and making it a 5 lug...any input on that swap would be great, before I go digging through wrecking yards.

Thanks for the help all.

Welcome to nopistons!

Feel free to start a topic in the Vintage Mazda Rotary section with some specific questions/problems, and you should get plenty of helpful responses.

Thanks, will do. Still trying to secure a way to get it from there to here, then the fun begins!
