New 1981 RX-7 GLS in Missouri
#1
I bought this car yesterday and it is a fricken hoot to drive. BUT! the thing has lots of steering play. Like when you put your hand at 12:00, there is play from 10:00 to 2:00. It sucks because it also doesnt have power steering, so I am gonna end up looking like the hulk after a long drive. Anyways. This car is unbelievably clean. It has one rust spot right below the hatch "handle" and no A/C belt (gonna strip it out and put the car on a MAJOR diet). My goals were originally to get a light car and put a large v8 in it, and I may still do it, but I plan on driving this car now as is (with fixed steering) until the motor pops.
This is my project car, but my daily driver is a 2006 Subaru WRX...hence the W7 in my name. (Two vehicles with RX in the name - w~RX~7). I have modified my wrx with full exhaust, tune, intercooler, intake, suspension mods and until recently was going to go with a large turbo swap, but decided I didnt want to risk blowing my tranny....
Anyways. I am going to fix this puppy up and see how it goes. IF anyone has a cheap alternative to my steering gearbox problem, please let me know. I am sure that I am going to have to replace the whole thing, so the tightening trick probably wont do it. Thanks again.
