My introduction to rx7's started in the late 80's and early 90's when my sister bought really nice 85 GSL-SE. Man she used to get into arguments with my mom and rip up the street like a bat out of hell. I remember seeing that Limited slip do its job as she left 2 equal length tracks of rubber up the street :0 I used to do her maintenance from about 1987 to 1990 and afterwards, i got to take it for a "test drive" ... hee hee hee! This was way before the drifting scene took off in america... but I learned to drift in that car, basically! That little rocket loved to get sideways when pushed hard and floored in a corner! I did it once right in front my my good friend Gerrod who was coming the other way! Boy was he pissed off at me. But the car was so manageable and controlled. I could hold that line and steer and not spin out. It was sweet! Really impressed with that car. Also, the cockpit on those 1st gens literally fit you like a glove unless you're really tall. I'm about 5'7" and its perfect. But then I fell in love with my own first rx7 about 7 years after that which is about 12 years ago in the mid to late 90's. It was a 1988 GXL and it ran sweet and I got it for only $400 which at the time was a great deal for a car that wasn't even 10 years old. I drove her for a while and had alot of good times but had to sell for money. Real good top end on those 6 port 13B NA's and incredible cornering and steering response even on a stock setup. It was so inspiring because I had spent years fixing up a RWD corolla to get it to do just that and here I sit into a stock Rx7 and its already outhandling my corolla!

One of my most favorite things of an rx7 is the sound and response character of the engine. I especially remember having one that I was fixing up that didn't have the 6 port actuators working. When I learned what those things were and how they worked and got them working, it was a great surprise. The power difference when those things kick in is remarkable. You can hear the engine sound change slightly too.

The peak of my rx7 mania hit me just after this when I began collecting fixer upper rx7's from craigslist for a good price, then fixing and selling or just using for parts to finish other projects. At the peak I had probably 10 cars parked in and around a single family home. I eventually ended up with alot of unfinished projects and lots of parts filling up the garage and the back yard. its a mini-junkyard over here. I and my friends are surprised sometimes at what I pull out from the garage at times. Things long forgotten but still good and waiting for a second chance at life.

In the past year I've sold a few turbo 2 hoods. I had collected about 10 of them (hoarding I guess you'd call it) and I also have a few aluminum non-turbo hoods still stacked on the side behind a mountain of things so I'll probably not get to them for a long time.

Then there are the shelfs full of things everywhere. I have little pockets of stuff collected. I stocked and saved s5 tail lights for my project GXL and tokico illumina with eibach springs setup. RB headers and presilencers and more and more. I have a complete s5 engine and tranny sitting in the garage with entire harnesses everything from under the dash to ecu all uncut. Not sure where that box of harness is at but its got to be nearby. The other complete engine tranny setup is an s4 setup, also with harness and ecu. These were supposed to be used to fix up my Rx7's. I have a couple of s5 convertibles and a GXL at the moment.

I'm sad to say that in recent times, I have not had the time or energy or motivation to keep up with it all and so although I will be saving a few precious things for my project car (the GXL). I will be selling most of the other things. Thats part of the reason why I'm on this forum. The other reason is, it looks like a good community and I love to read and share when time permits. I have a very good feedback rating on ebay and so rest assured I'm not here to scam anybody.

Trust me though, hopefully soon I'll take the cash from selling the extra parts and the few saved parts to put together a really sweet FC3S!

TTYL

Dave
