I'm the "technical director" of a series 6 RX7, in Targa Tasmania, and we're running an ApexI Power Fc ECU and Fc commander hand controller module, as well as a laptop running the New-Zealand created program "FC-Datalogit". Our car is EXTENSIVELY modified. We're talking about water spray radiator cooling, rollcage, Bigger turbos, 25psi boost, SP bodykit repro'ed in carbon fiber, kevlar driveshaft, you name it, we've done it. Bills on this thing total $200,000.00 AUD worth of labor and parts. But, as with all big projects, there's a problem. Cant seem to get the damn thing tuned. We need an expert who's done work with the ApexI power FC before, to take a look and see if they can work out roughly whats wrong with this car. It crackles and pops at low speed (checked all the ignition/electrics, that aint it..) but at 3,000rpm, it seems to come stoich, and motors along perfectly. We also have a problem with the idle. Tried every way we know, to get it to idle, but its 'hunting'. Ie; its reving from 400rpm, up to 1000rpm and repeating this cycle, when it should be idling. Nothin makes any difference. It'd probably be a good idea at this point, to say that the 13B is running 850cc primary injectors, and 1200cc secondary injectors. With the transition onto the secondaries set at 22.5% throttle, (low, but thats where it seems to run best.) We have Paul Morgan (the rotary builder on the DIY RE 13B DVD series) lookig over us, but he cant suggest any problems that might be affecting the car. We tried changing the injectors back to stock sizes, changing throttlebody, coil packs, spark leads, tried putting the standard computer back in; everything. nothing makes this 13b run sweet. The fuel and ignition maps, in fact, the whole ECU settings, are working fine in a stock roadcar, so why not in this car?? Aaaargh! drives me nuts that we've got this far, and cant get any further. if I could, I'd stick a holley 4bbl on this thing, because i'm a carb guy, and I'd have it running by now. We missed our first racemeet, because it will not tune!!!
