I'm an old piston jammer, but I'm new to rotary engines. I just started a new project - slipping a 13B turbo RX-7 into a '70 Karman Ghia. I hope to pick up a lot of great info here to help me build a real satisfying car with a lot higher performance than it had before. My weakest area is my lack of knowledge about the electronic engine control system. I'm sure you guys can help me out a lot.

Thanks,

daverhea

Welcome to nopistons!

Will you be using the stock Mazda ECU?

Sounds like a neat project. I've always liked the Ghias. Used to have an old air-cooled Beetle once upon a time.

Welcome to nopistons! Once you figure it out, you'll realize it's pretty darn simple. You could even swap a distributor on it if you wanted (from an earlier model).

Be sure to post any questions you have in the proper technical section, you'll get plenty of good answers.

Thanks for the welcome. I bought a JDM 13B turbo motor and it does not have ECU with it - so I've got to buy one along with a wiring harness. I will have to do some research on which ECU to get. The trucking company called and told me that the motor will be delivered Monday. Once I get the numbers off I can inquire about what model ECU I need. You raise an interesting question; I have seen the "hopped up" chips but I wouldn't have a reasonable idea of what I need. I plan to drive the Ghia on the street. However, I still like to burn the treads at the strip every now and then.

Thanks,

daverhea
