I've owned my RX-8 for a year since this month. Interesting but fairly typical first year for a Rotary virgin. Civics seem to be the whipping boys of the road since so many mod lists for their cars go like this: PAINT! WING! BODY KIT (UNPAINTED!) and so on. Don't get me wrong, there's a 500 hp Civvy in the area that Solo IIs and does well so I know there's some sort of potential, but rice-boys are a dime a dozen. Getting to the "racing." (Oh yeah, area's Alabama so traffic is either extremely light to "moves every 5 minutes, no real middle ground.) I'm traveling towards Shelby to pick up some things from a recent move and here he comes. It's probably one of the fattest people that I've ever seen with an equally fat passenger in his rusting bondo wagon Civic. And he does a fly-by (stuck behind a family in a van, I'm aggressive mostly only when provoked) and I can see them in their rear window cheering. We can't have this can we? I'm no FD3S but SE3Ps sure don't suck. I drop 'er and begin weaving my way up, now it's my turn. I begin my own fly-by and all of a sudden the land-whale in the passenger seat leans out looking behind him, expecting me perhaps? I'm perfectly beside him at this point looking to see what's up. To this day I couldn't tell you what it was since I'm bone stock and therefore have no loud exhaust, but he snaps to attention and has this completely bewildered (scared?) look on his face as he sees me blast by. I'm sure we all have these stories, but if anyone wants to hear more, let me know.

This one may be a bit more interesting. We had just moved (referenced in my last post) and some guy who drove a Z71 or something talked about how he had 5.6 litre displacement or somesuch, I don't remember the exact numbers, I do know that it was a V-8. He began to get cocky and talk about how it'd at least beat my car off of the line. At this point I told him I only had 1.3 displacement and that really got him going. He kept re-iterating everything he had already. It's about 3 a.m. at this point and my eyes are slightly droopy. We go and find a nice deserted road. I line up and at this point I'm wide awake and feeling the effects of my adrenaline in anticipation. I'm about to run my car harder than I ever have. My friend Kevin gives the countdown over the roar of my engine as I rev it to 5k. As soon as he says go I drop her and I'm out of there putting car lengths between me and the cocky fellow. He never touches me. On a side note, I'm flying and not letting up until the stop sign at the end of the road, well, there's also a dip in this road, and my car hits this dip, hard. 
Sparks are flying all over the road, scares the hell out of me and Kevin and I'm sure the people behind me are probably enjoying it. I stop at the sign, breathing heavily and completely alert. He rolls up beside me and immediately says "Hey man! You might want to go pick up your oil pan!" Well... Obviously the first things that came to mind were expletives. Turns out the guy was just kidding, but oh man that split second of agony. The good news? I got to show a guy that there is Replacement For Displacement
