Let’s get the basics out of the way 1st.

My Mods:

1985 GSL-SE with 95’ Cosmo 13B-RE

63-1 Single Turbo

370 to the wheels , (with old stock port)

Now I am Street-ported, dowel-pinned and still breaking the engine in…

Time:

about 12:30 p.m., Last Friday night

Location:

Kendall, on SW 137th Ave

(3 lanes each way with large median)

Okay, so I am driving my FB up and down 137th avenue, trying to put some miles on the engine,

As I still have to break her in from the “clutch exploding fiasco ” back in February. The streets are bare, as this is the time I prefer to drive my car without the hassles of traffic

I have about 250 miles on the engine, so I am not going past 5500 RPM, and even then, it’s

in short little bursts to 6000.

Kill Number One: (this was a bitch slap.)

I see a late model, blue Mustang GT turn onto my road up ahead, and he guns it while take accelerating, letting the V8 roar as he does so.

I am thinking this is a good time to try one of those “bursts of speed”.

I pull up to his right side, next to him. I can see through their open windows that he has two “A” pillar gauges, and a mini shift lite. I start thinking - Oh-oh, this guy is probably modded, - maybe I am biting off more than I could chew.

His passenger gives me a “yeah, right - like you have a chance…” look. I look at the driver and point forward. We are cruising at about 45-50 mph, and I am in third. (don’t want to over-rev while breaking in.)

He downshifts and guns it, bringing the Flowmasters to life, and I punch it as well, and instantly make boost.

It was over as quickly as it started. I pulled two car lengths in about three seconds, and then laid off. My BOV making the sweet sound of victory as I let off the throttle.

As I slow down, they pull up next to me again - this time with the passenger hanging out his window to give my little FB a better look-see. He gets next to me and yells, “No fair!, You’ve got a Turbo!”

What? Is this guy serious? I yell back, “So what? You’ve got a V8, and with all those gauges and ****, I am sure you’re not stock! You wanna try again?”

The driver then nods a “no”, and I make my BOV go off right next to them a few more times before I pull ahead. Kinda like a dog lifting his leg and marking his territory..

Kill Number Two:

I called my friend on the cell phone to tell him about the wussies in the V8. He tells me that they’re probably just used to picking on 4 bangers, and feeling good about themselves.

While on the same stretch of road, I see another new Mustang, black, with nice ADR rims. He’s going pretty quick moving through the little bit of traffic, to get in the clear road up ahead.

I followed suit and got next to him, on his left.

We both slow down to about 25 mph, and he tells me to go on the third honk. He did all three honks real fast, to get me off guard, but I was already in 2nd, and revved to 6300 RPM in 2nd, switch to third, and pulled about 8 car lengths before shutting down around 85mph.

He then proceeded to do a ricer-fly-bye and made a right turn up ahead, probably trying to forget how badly he just got owned.

Kill Number Three:

What the **** is this? Mustang night?! I can only assume their was a Mustang Club meet nearby, because a little further ahead I see three more mustangs all rolling together and playing tag with each other. BTW, these kills where all on the same street, within 10 minutes of each other.

I as approach this “herd” of Mustangs, I see a particularly nice Silver Mustang with real nice deep dish wheels, and some lettering on the back and sides..

As I get closer, I read the “Saleen” logos on the rear and lower body panels. This car was Beautiful. Now I don’t remember if some Saleens are supercharged or not, but I click on my Profec B and set the boost to “hi” (17 PSI) just in case I need it.

I pull up slowly to his passengers side, and let my BOV get his attention. He’s a young guy in his 20’s, with the music thumpin’, but still drowned out by the gurgle of his exhaust.

He looks at me for a second, and then punches it, and lets off, I guess to “teach me” what his car would do to me if we raced. I was not impressed.

This time I tell him to go on the third honk, and I slowly honk my horn three times, and it’s on!

I was in third at about 50, and I immediately pull him 2 car lengths, then three, then 4, then 5, then I changed gears to 4th, and pulled another couple of car lengths before letting off around 100 or so and coasted down.

My exhaust let off a nice big fireball as I coasted down, and he finally pulled up next to me.

He gave me a thumbs up and asked me, “what do you have?” I replied that it was “just” a turbo rotary, and he pulled away, with his other “ponies” following him. After beating their “alpha male” none of the others wanted any part of my little 7.

All in all, not a bad night, considering I was just trying to put some miles on the engine, and I never revved past 6300 RPM. With my current street-port, I could only imagine how much worse I would have beaten them if I were to downshift or rev the engine to 8000 RPM.

Thanks,

She looks better in pictures, as she is in the need of a good paint job. I will

be finishing her up in the next few months, including finishing the interior, Ford 8.8 rear end swap and installing my Mariah Widebody kit.

370RWHP?

you probably had 50whp on all of them, plus they were giving up at least 650pounds.

is it normal for rotaries to use v8 carbs carburators?

about the saleens, they sell bodykits too. if it was supercharged i'm sure the whine would have been obvious.

good kills.
