I finally got my FD back from the paint shop today. The dude with the Supra said he would be looking out for me this week, and sure enough he was at the same gas station (see part 1 of the Supra saga for information). He had also brought his "team" up from Jersey. It consisted of his Supra, a 94 MR-2, a new Celica (but it was only a GT), and a Corolla. All of them had huge Toyota decals on their rear windows, and under that (I had not noticed this before) was "Toyota Gangstaz" in gothic writing. I thought this must be some joke, none of them seemed to be any better than the Supra, I guess it was their belief that stickers and neons are the true performance enhancers!

Anyways, the Supra dude pointed out the MR-2 and said he was interested in racing me. This car caught my eye, it seemed to be decent, there was nothing done to the outside of the car. Out of all Toyotas MR-2's are my favorite since the body style is very similar to the FD. I kind of think of them as mid-engine RX-7s. The 3SGTE engine is also very under-rated in this country at least, and ironically this engine is swapped into the Supra on the GT Circuit (this is what I've heard, I could be wrong). Anyways, I was eager to race the MR-2 already.

The guy let me look in his car, and this when I started feeling sorry for the MR-2. Inside he had a sound system that probably weighed more than the engine (I started feeling very grateful for the weight advantage given to me by the Rotary ) Also his engine was more comical than anything. He had covered all of his wires with yellow tubing, and he also had TRD ignition wires, which seemed to be his pride and joy. However two things did catch my eye, the Blitz K3T Turbo kit, and the Blitz Boost Controller. He said he was running around 15 PSI. Based on that I'm guessing he had well over 300 HP probably around 350. Another thing that caught my eye was the condition of his tires. They looked more like slicks than road tires.

I was already very confidet about the race. Although he had around 100 more horsepower, I had a lighter car with better traction and handling. We then left the station and proceeded to the road I had raced the Supra on. He was in the lead, and as soon as we got on it, he punched it. I followed, well not really. The MR-2 shot off like a bullet, I was quickly left in the dust. However, I continued on with the foot on the floor, taking some turns at around 75 mph. After the third turn there was a straight away, and I caught sight of him, he was around 3 cars in front. Remarkably I shortened the gap during the straight and entered the next turn right on his bumper. The next turn was a hairpin turn, I guess this intimidated him because he started slowing down way before the turn. I used this opportunity, I passed him at around 60 then slowed down to 20 for the turn. After I made it he was around 2 cars back, but I punched it and continued on until the end of the road. Another victory for the Rotary!

I hope he learned a lesson that when you want to race you need a well balanced car, and a huge sound system does not accomplish that. It also shows that a well tuned suspension can beat a considerable amount of horsepower.

The guy was a really bad driver who was afraid to take corners any faster than 40 and I dont blame since his suspension was bone stock. Grip is not that hard so I dont c wut the big deal is, I averaged around 60 on the turns, and my tires didnt even burn out at all, so it was more due to my car than my skills that I won.
