I got into a race with a guy in a mid-nineties 5.0 LX Mustang the other day...

I was doing around 80-85 mph in the left lane, he comes up and goes by in the third lane at around 90... ok, who cares... but then he gives me this sneer and a little extra gas as he passes as if to say, "pppfffftttt lame *** ricer" (even though my RSX is BONE stock).

So decide to play psychological games with him just to test his resolve. I get behind him a few car lengths and match his speed. After a moment, he bumps it up a little to about 95; I match. Again, after a moment, he bumps up to around 100... I do the same.

So we have to slow a little to make our way through some cars and we end up doing about 85 mph or so in the left lane. I'm about 4 car lengths back... just hanging out there.

He punches it hard suddenly and puts about 1 or maybe 2 cars on me. I hit it too from around 5500 RPM in 5th gear... I'm very slowly pulling him in... when we get up to somewhere around 120 or 125 mph, he shifts (noticed smoke from his pipes on the shift) to HIS 5th gear. I'm still in my 5th gear (I have a 6 speed) and pulling hard now that I'm in the sweet spot of the VTEC. I really started reeling him in quickly at that point, and I was up right on his *** in a few seconds... We were somewhere around 130 mph, and his car just didn't have much more to give. He was still increasing his speed, but not too fast; I had no troubles at all keeping on him like glue. After maybe 5-7 seconds at over 130, he gave up and put on his signal and moved over.

Nice job!

Yeah no doubt about that... I'm sure off a light he would have put a couple cars on me on the launch. It's just surprising to a lot of V8 people how well a 200 HP 4 cylinder can hang on the highway Especially when you factor in driver ability.

I was racing my friend in his V8 LS1 Camaro. (me in the RSX-S again) I had 3 passengers and he had none. He IS a crappy driver compared to me.... I had no problems keeping up with him on some mixed straights and curves. We were hitting speeds of around 90-100 mph maximum with some curves thrown in where you might have to drop to 60 or so.... Every time he gained a few cars on a straight I would come right up on his *** at the next turn. My passengers were like DAMN!

After we got out of the cars, he said something like, "yeah I beat you"... (meaning he was pulling away on the straights)... I said, "Well I have 3 passengers... tell you what... let's go run that course again and you take my 500 pounds of weight and we'll see what's up then". He quickly shut up and wouldn't do it. Die American cars!

Some of my other favorite cars to pick on in the RSX are lower model Porsches like 944s or older 911s. They think they're going to win because of the badge on their hood... hahahah not likely. I'm not saying I demolish them, but I can keep them from passing me or keep them from pulling away.

I get a LOT of races (a few good ones per week) because I drive on this toll road on the way to work every day... there is a tollbooth I go through where a lot of people basically treat it like a rolling-start drag race. I would honestly say that I hit 100 or more mph at least 4 days of the week just on my trip to or from work.

Don't even ask how fast I go in my RX-7 :smirk:

an rsx type s shouldnt even be a match for a ls1.... 60 mph times are 1.5 seconds apart 5.2 vs 6.7

well my experience is way different, instant 2 cars from 0-30, 4 cars to 60, 2 cars at 80. gaining on me to 100. Higher speeds to start to catch up. I had light mods and so did he.
