Okay, so I'm sitting at the light and a teal mustang, mostly stock and probably a V6, pulls up next to me. Its a couple of goofballs in the car, guys wearing cowboy hats all bent up. I figured they might try to smoke me, so I discretely shifted down to first (automatic ??? ). The light changes and the guy takes off. I force the pedal down, chirping my tires and also take off. So his low end torque gets him off the line quicker, but my port job and increased hight end power catches up to him. Once I hit 4000 rpm, he's toast. :out: I fly by, not even glancing over at him. The speed limit's 45, so once I hit the red, its back into D and I'm crusing. He tries to show off, pulling up beside me, so I throw it down to second. My car pulls off with that distinctive rotary growl. Again, see ya later. :thefinger:

Some people, they get a "sports car" that every other person world has and they think they do something fast. Get a rotary, thats all I say.

Just wait till I get my Turbo II: 5.0's be ware.

:out: :out: :out: :out: :out: :out:

Twin89Stangs 05-14-2002 10:30 PM

your not a turbo?

Must of been a 6 even a 4 maybe...

my 2.3 ran 18.2 at gateway... the 6's of that year where not much faster though!

13b1stgen 05-15-2002 12:31 PM

well while were on the topics of stangs( i dislike all domestics) my bro's celica gts 6spd took a 2001 cobra on the highway by about 1 1/2 cars. the guy couldnt believe he got beat by a 4 banger with just exhaust and intake. :lachuh:

Twin89Stangs 05-15-2002 11:16 PM

you sure it was a Cobra?

01 Cobra's run 13.3 stock....

GTS celica 6 spds only 15.2.....

Sure it wasnt a V6??? with cobra bodywork?

Quick way to check is look under the rear... if it is independant it is a Cobra. If it is a solid axle it is a GT or V6....

320 hp vs 180...

cobra 320

GT 260

V6 190

I have beaten GTS celicas myself...

so the guy could not drive or he was not a cobra!

13b1stgen 05-16-2002 10:01 AM

well i know it was a cobra for sure because he showed us his engine bay after i asked if it was a real cobra. now as far as the hp ratings for the celica go i think that the manufacturer is under rating it for some reason because he's raced stock supras and 3rd gens and takes them also and the supra also has 320 stock. either way he beat the cobra now the driver might have been the problem i couldnt tell you that for sure, but that would make my bro a really lucky guy as far as running into people with shitty driving skills.

Twin89Stangs 05-16-2002 11:50 AM

I run 14.8's and have taken out a Celica GTS 6 spd.

I have raced Cobra's and gotten my ass handed to me.

The 32 Valve Cobras HAUL!

13.3 and for 03 12.8 on street tires....

Guess the guy did not know how to drive.

I worked for Toyota for a bit before switching dealerships. I use to drive those celicas and while pretty quick I did not think they had enough balls to beat a cobra.

I guess the guy did not know how to race or his clutch was slippin so bad that he couldn't put anypower to the ground....

I raced a 98 Cobra and I raced a 01 Cobra... the 98 was actually a lot faster off the line. In 99 Ford put IRS on the back of the Cobra's well it makes them a lot harder to get off the line. they are better in the twisties now. So the old Solid Axle Cobras can launch hard. When I raced the 01 I got him off the line due to me being able to launch at a higher RPM where he could not go above 3000 due to axle windup in the IRS rear end. dunno why you won on this one... Anyway congrats on the kill...

Oh signs of it being a Cobra...

White face gauges

different seats

Different front Fascia

Different Wheels

IRS rear end

Different exhaust due to IRS

32 Valve 4 cam Motor

Cobra Bumper

Also if you look under the rear end you would see some snaking exhaust due to the IRS rear end. This is pretty much the way to tell a Cobra.

My friend w/ his 86 Iroc z28 raced a 98-00 (?) cobra and only got beat by a car length, but he had 4ppl in his car, and couldn't stop buring rubber. Thats my only take on them. ( he's also got 6k in engine work)

Anyone who says they dislike Mustangs/domestics has never driven one, drive something with some torque to it, and tell me you dislike it! :P On another note, the 2003 Mustang Cobra is 390hp/390 ft lbs of torque, ran the 1/4 mile in 12.9. Ill eat my shoe with my foot still in it when a 6 speed celica with exaust and intake beats that https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif

Maybe the guy in the Mustang doesn't know he can downshift. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Rob x-7 05-21-2002 07:31 PM

Maybe he had 5.13 gears and was maxed out on the highway.

5.13. I've actually heard of people driving around with that on the street.

Rob x-7 05-21-2002 07:39 PM

I had 4.56 in my cutlass when it had the small block still in it.

I have to agree. There is something with appeal to the low end torque created by a V8, and that big throaty exhaust. My buddy just got a 2002 Firebird witha V8, six-speed tranny, Hurst shifter, decked out interior. Man, it's nice. That car pulls hard down low. It would be nice to be able to smoke my tire at only 1000 rpm...

But then again, it's even better when domestics pull out quick with thier low end torque and a 7 comes back at around 3 1/2 or 4000 rpm and smokes 'em. Either way, driving is excitement...in a sports car. Of coarse I'll take the handling and the quick nimbleness of an RX-7 any day.

Update on the 03 Cobra

Hot Rod magazine Cranked a 12.6 out of it on street tires!

MM&FF 12.47 on street tires!!!

We talking a 12 second flat ride here possibley with exhaust and slicks!

SnowmanSteiner 06-16-2002 11:40 PM

No offense buy I seriously doupt that that was an 01 cobra. One of my best friends has one with only an H pipe on it and one of our other friends drive a 6spd celica and she has gotten her ass handed to her everytime they ran. And as for looking like a cobra trust me it isn't that hard to fake it. I know a guy who has a 96 GT which he made look exactly like a cobra just buy front and rear bumpers a couple emblems and a new intake manifold. But if you're beating supra's and 7's they must have the wrong mods on them. I know two brothers who have supra's they both have done different mods but one got extremely fast and the other one got slower. Sorry buy I seriously doupt that you took a cobra. And as for hating them I must agree with some of the others if you have ever felt the power that that engine holds you would retract that statement, especially when you hear that low grumble from the exhaust.
