I Did Pretty Well

So i knew this kid that owns a Lincoln Mark 8...and he pulled up to my house in his parents Toyota Rav 4. and at the time i was tightening the alt. belt and the PS belt because they were sooo extreemly loose in fact i lost the AC belt because it was so loose it was running off of the pulleys and and it fliped it self over. so this kid goes and gets his mark 8 and it takes us a bit to get to where we want to do a couple of quickes... so we line up and one of the kids in his car jumps out and gives us the go i launch at 3k spin the tires a bit... hook back up and i'm gone... pull second till about 55 MPH and turn second into third i had to give up around the middle of third to brake and i smoked him. we turn around line back up and this next time was the same way sept i launched at 4 and and spun the tires to much and couldn't get myself into second so i had to give up and turn around to line up for the third go so i lined back up and go at 3k again. and he smoked me till 3rd and even then i was on his bumper so.. i gotta say if i could learn how to shift quick at redline speeds i would be real freekin fast . but i've only driven a stick for say... 200 miles. so lol i got some learning to do but it was fun... and if i can take the v8 mark 8 i think i can take most 6 cyl. thats an exiting..... cant think of the word lol

umm i dont know because my friend told me his BMW was fast so he took me for a ride and he took off in first scretching the tires like hell and so he shifted and i dont know but it took him a couple of sec. to shift so i was like wtf? and i asked him is that the fastest u can shift and he say yeah so i asked him if i can take it for a spin and he said yeah so i did and the gears seemed to go in pretty hard but after i went trough all the gears i was able to just slam every gear so i dont know what u mean about fast shifting. are u talking about after u redline shift really quick to the next gear? or what i still dont get it.

'shifting mad quick' is hell on your syncros and doesnt gain you much, just shift smooth and precisely and you should be fine. You shouldnt have to BANG through the gears to stay into boost, practice going smoothly, you have to let the syncros do their job and that requires some time for them to sync the rpm's of the gear you wish to engage and input shaft. You will do better practicing the timing of shifting so you have matched the rpms when you go to engage the next gear than just forcing the shifter into gears as fast as possible.

Banging gears is a bad idea, nobody smart in the street racing scene really does it. The key is being precise, yes, we all go through the "hey look, i can bang these gears so ******* fast" phase, but sooner or later you'll have to learn that speed can be accuired through precision.
Like pangaru said, shifting quickly (banging the gears) is hell on the synchros, so you might be bogging down because you don't get on the gas soon enough after you clutch out.
Try shifting smoothly with your wrist only a few times and give the gas pedal a slight nudge before getting completly of the clutch. But, be carefull as if you do this, you might smoke the clutch if you don't get off of it fast enough and maybe give the car to much gas.
Practise might not make perfect, but it's the key.
