Well, My friend just got this 1989 240sx about 4-5 weeks ago. He has been bragging about it ever since, "its so fast and I could own your seven." Well, he got it registered last week and he finally pulls it out and I ask him to come to the motor speedway with me. We are at Midnight Mayhem you pay $10 to race all night until 2:00Am. I line up with him eventually and he is hella cocky.(his mods- hks exhaust, bov, bc, b-gauge, short throw, and struts(rear). Well on the launch I pull ahead about 1 1/2 car lengths, I slowly keep pulling on him ending up at about 2 car lengths on him. He rips through the gears then in 3rd he misshifts into 2nd and I pull way out ahead of him. He says man that was luck! Then I run him one more time and I pull about 1 car length on him from the launch and then I pull about 2 1/2 more lengths by the end of the race. Very nice kills. Nissan makes some fine engines and the SR20 isn't an exception. Its just overhyped thats all. I forgot the exact specs on an SR but they're not too different from TII specs (S4 and S5 for the S13 and 14 respectively).

Hay 702 thaks for the invite. I haven't been down to Vegas for a while. Don't think I'll drive next time I come down takes to long and I need to do plenty of maint on my subie i've been treating it like a red headed step child. I do plan on taking the 7 to vegas when its done. but it has a ways to go and many thousands of dollars till its done. I'll let you know when I plan on going down, might be soon I need to get away for a long weekend. I'd like to check out your car and the races. get back on this.

Ummmmm... I'd hate to break it to you, but the 4G63 is a piece of ****. The SR20 is a VERY strong motor, and has a huge horsepower to reliability potential.



I honestly don't know too much about the MR2 motor, but I know for a fact that the SR20 is better built than the 4G63.

The 12a could not make 350-400HP and have the torque to back it up.

My opinion is that the SR20 is over-hyped and over-played. The swap has become monotonous...everyone's doing it.

youd be surprised what the lil 12A could do...i wasnt trying to start anything either, was just trying to see things from your point of view, sorta.

the newest swap ive seen is the FC20(s2000 i think), in an AE86...its pretty sweet.

They may be over played and over hyped... But don't short change them. Those motors can be monsters and still last a long time. Not trying to sound upset or anything. Just trying to give a motor the credit it deserves.

a 4g63 a piece of ****? i knwo someone who has one with a exhaust, 16g, bigger side mount and some other random mods and he runs 19 or 20psi daily for about 1 and 1/2 years now......I guess that isn't good? and the motor isn't built...its stock. another friend of mine has a 99 with a 16g and a bunch of other ****, he dynoed 310 awdhp at 18psi..and he drives it daily like that for about 6 months...I'm not tryign to start a fight, jsut trying to give a motor its credit

4g63 is a piece of ****. The awd ones are nice off the line and thats it, and the fwd ones are ass off the line. I know several people that have built up eclipses and talons here is the list...



second gen eclipse it was automatic had fmic, upgraded turbo (not sure but i think it was a 20g) and a whole bunch of other ****, was running at about 20 psi and his best time was 15.1 i think now that is pitiful



Another guy with a second gen talon has been through 6 motors in 1 year!!! And he didnt get another motor right after the other ones blew up the car sat between each new motor.



Another guy i went to highschool with had a 1st gen talon ran a 14.1 with the stock turbo and some bolt ons i believe but he was having motor trouble the entire 7 months he had the car, he ended up selling it.



Finally another guy who i used to hang out with has a 97 gst with fmic, 16g, upgraded fuel, kaaz lsd, 3 inch exhaust, safc and other stuff im forgetting. He blew his motor and spent 10k+ for all his parts and work and ran a 13.7 at 21psi. And he is on his 5th transmission in a year. All in all he has probly driven his car a total of 4 months the last year.



The motor, along with the rest of the car is ass.

thats funny, cause a firend of mine with a 20g, fmic, and some other stuff just ran a 13.2 at 106 mph...with a 2.2 60ft



tell your friends to learn how to drive and get their cars tuned correctll...and i don't see how the guy has been through that many trannys with fwd?...tell him to use the clutch

None of these guys are my friends I dont tell them anything that can be considered usefull. And all of them except for the last one were tuned I believe. When the last guy blew his motor all he had was exhaust bye the way, and it was crankwalk that got him.



I havent seen one dsm that has been reliable and fast yet.

etown..during the DSM shootout...last week or the week before..crank walk only happens on the 7 bolt motors...doesn't mean all 4g63s are ****

did turbotrix tune them...cause that just sounds like bad tuning/"i can't drive for ****"..besides the crank walk and the guy that has been through 5 trannys

You could replace a lot of things you said with "13b-REW" and "FD."

a SR20 can have upto 450hp on stock internals.



that is why so many people are doing the swap. isn't the 4g63 the one that suffers from crank walk?
