Buddy of mine, Steve, sold his FD a few months ago and bought himself a 99 Viper GTS. Had a 20 minute cruise to the "hot spot" tonight, but couldn't get lined up with him ... too much Friday night traffic still at 9:30pm. Grabbed some food, chatted with the large gathering of people out at the staging spot tonight.

About 1:30am I decide I'm going to head home and ask Steve if he wants to do a few roll on's with me on the way home. He lives the opposite direction from me, but has a further drive so we decide to line up a few times heading toward his house.

3 runs total.

1st run - 40 roll, 2nd gear, 3 honk, I spool immediately and put a car on him in 2nd, shift to 3rd and pull two cars on him, shift to 4th, keep pulling, probably another car, maybe to till the top of 4th (135ish).

2nd run - 70 roll, 3rd gear, 3 honk, same result, I spool immediately and put probably 2 cars on him this time, miss 4th gear (don't ask me how!), shove the clutch back in, get it in gear and punch it ... during my mis-shift recovery he pulls up within 1/4 even, once I get going in 4th I pull several cars on him to the top of 4th, shift to fifth, there is a car in my lane, I move over into his lane and keep a steady 3 or so cars on him up to 155 - 160Mph!!!

3rd run - 60 roll, 3rd gear, no honks we are just kinda looking at each other revving, we both end up punching it at the same time, takes me a second to get spooled up as 60 roll in 3rd is about the WORST speed with my setup to go from a roll, so we are even for a second or two until I spool, about 75 I start pulling hard, a car and a half to 2 cars by the top of 3rd, shift to 4th and pull another few cars then shut down...

Great runs Steve (if you still check the RX7 forum!!!) My first official Viper kill and earning of my Snake Defanger Title.

I'm sure Steve has mod fever now, just a few things done to his viper at this point. We are both planning to goto the track tomorrow, so we will line up from a dig ... will definately have video of those runs!

PS I've just finished the breakin of my new Pineapple motor (1050 miles now) ... I was running 15.5psi tonight on these runs.

yes it is, i ran one from a dead stop and got him off the line, then as soon as i got into third all i see is a blue flash, tailights, and the most amazing sound i ever heard (next to the 787b). i thought my **** was fast, we get to the next stop light, he lifts up a laptop and says he had "too much wheelspin, do you want to go again?" i said no.

You were under boost in third gear and holding even with a Viper? Was he just cruising? You know if you take the jump on him at that speed, its very difficult to make up.

Anyway, cool stuff beating him... :bigthumg:

As far as modified vipers go.... scarey.

Rather drive the FD anyday. Even if it's slower.
