wtf is double shifting.....
Double clutching (as I understand it) is putting the clutch in, shifting from whatever gear you're in to neutral, letting the clutch out, matching your RPMs to the next gear, putting the clutch in, shifting from neutral to the next gear, and letting the clutch back out. From what I know, its primarily a big-rig trucker technique that would be useless in a drag race.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

from what i understand, double clutching is only used in downshifting, say you were going into a turn and you were in third gear but you want more power to exit the turn, you push the clutch in and put in in neautral rev to the specific rpm of second gear and push the clutch in and shift into second gear, youll get a lot of power upon exiting the turn or basically downshifting to catch up to a ricer flyby, lol i keeps your synchros in your tranny from getting fucked up and it takes practice to do! its sweet as hell if done correctly, i may be mistake but there is no such thing as double clutching while shiftng from first gear on up to fifth gear? it would take longer too.......... someone correct me if i am wrong :bigok:

You have described double clutching accurately as I understand it. :bigthumg:

Absolutely useless in a drag race. :stickpoke:

I think it was a necessity in the "old days" before they had synchros.

I am laughing at this title of this thread.

I was just looking at the kills section at the main page and saying "Man I wish I could score a good kill".

I have had a bad run of tickets terrorizing the streets. My last was a "DRAG RACING" ticket. BTW- I kicked this F-body camaro's *** really bad the race was over mid way through second gear. I barely broke the speed limit and got a drag racing ticket.

The **** is hitting the fan. I forgot to pay it. I wanted to take a school or even a court date to reduce it and pay fines.

Now its on my liscense I just tried to get a life insurance policy and it looks like I am getting declined because the insurance company thinks I am Vin Diesel now.

Be careful - I am learning the hard way.

But I still want to kill some cars on the street.

I need help......

I've been practicing matching revs before downshifting preparing for a turn... I guess that's double clutching from what you're saying. It definitely helps exit speed in the right gear but can be dangerous if you are too slow on the shift and come into the turn too fast. The thing that would be better is heal toe shifting where you are braking while matching revs with the clutch in... that seems impossible but to get really good at autox or road racing, you need to I guess.

This is the correct discription of Double Clutching. And it is correct to say that it is only needed on old cars because they did not have synchros. If you double clutch now you will just be wasting a lot of time. It is a thing of the past - but people still talk about it like it is cool and you will probably never talk them out of it, someone that they look up to probably told them about it.

As for downshifting - you have synchros so there is no need to waste time double clutching. Just push the clutch in and pop the throttle a little. The RPMs will jump it will slip right in the the lower gear and you will be set to come out of the corner.

Good luck

I like to powershift. That is where you shift without lifting your right foot. You have to shift about 300-500 RPM's sooner but the results are awesome. When you miss the results suck! Engine will easily rev to 10,000 RPM = pieces flying off. Or tranny's synchros take a ****.

I have not powershifted my TII at the track, but with my '00 GT mustang I was able to trim 0.4 seconds off of my 1/4 mile time doing it.

I alsways tune people out when they start talking about double clutching and granny shifting its all acient and not needed today.
