Beat A 360 Spider
#1
Normally the only real races i get into involve ricers in civics and preludes and they're usually not races for very long, but this was a close one.
I'm coming home from my overnight shift at around 6:30am on a Sunday and i'm on my way to my Princeton review classes right afterwards. I pull out of my drive way and i see a ferrari 360 spider (i think). The driver looks a bit lost because, for one he's in my devopment, and two he keeps looking down and up at the street signs. I pull up next to him, rev my engine up, and ask him if he's lost. He looks up, and says "maybe".
"Till the parkway try and keep up ok?" i said
"of course" he says looking smug
he blasts off from the stop sign, and i'm a two cars behind him. But he had to slow down fifty yards later for a left turn (we're still in my devopment so its only a two lane road). I'm in second gear and doing around 40 mph (for some reason i can't turn my overdrive off since i got my ECU changed), and decided i could take the turn without slowing down (I've done it going 50 mph b4 so way not?) so i over took him on the inside, shift into 4th (why isn't my gear lock working Ito?) and we exit into a local 2 lane highway.
He's gaining fast (think he's got a 300HP and around 300lb/ft under there) but i'm not worried because there's a right turn coming up right afterwards. I just coast into it at 45mph (no braking) and he slows down again. Again I'm way ahead of him and hitting 80, but he had another explosion of speed and start to slowly gain on me. But the road worked to my advantage since it was a winding with a few dips, he had to slow down alot on most of them (i guess he didn't know the roads too well). Granted i had to slow down too, and without manual shifting, which i've given up on, but i was still able to stay in front.
My house is only 3 miles from the parkway, and i have to go thru downtown Keniworth. So on the last light i stop and tell him that downtown is coming up and it might not be a great idea to continue. He concurred, we complemented eachother's rides and driving and went our seperate ways.
I think if he really knew the roads better or how to niegotiate turns better, he would've won. His car was certainly faster but i'll take wins anyway i can get them.

Sounds dangerous... I drive an auto too and I wouldn't take a turn in gear if someone paid me (too many unexpected fishtails). Nice though.
Oh yea.. your hold function doesn't work now that you upgraded your ECU because they don't make aftermarket ECU's for automatics... and since a manual doesn't have a hold mode, neither does your car now.
So.. you have to find a new way to drive. =(
