Hey guys, I frequent the srtforums often and those guys seem to think that on the highway they can beat an RX7, the FD I believe (93-97 body style). One was talking about his kill and I couldn't believe it, although I haven't been in the SRT4 I just can't see it winning because of the RX7's highway capabilities. Anyways, I wanted to hear what you guys thought about this, or just post your races against an SRT4, if you've won or lost. Please don't delete/lock/move this post.

It should be very close, if the RX-7 is stock. And if it's stock there's a good chance it may be missing some power due to being 10 years old.

Since you're on the highway traction shouldn't be an issue.

FD 2800 lbs, 220 rwhp

SRT-4 2850ish, 225 fwhp

Throw in the fact that the SRT-4 is geared for 168 mph instead of 200 mph top speed and there's a very good chance it will be quicker than an FD.

It'll never be as sexy though!

not yet, and don't exactly plan on it...2 losses are enough. Yes, I'm admitting that my FC will NOT beat an SRT 4 at a standstill...I'd have to hope for a crappy driver in the Neon. Or Yuki being in a VERRRRY good mood.

Neon or not, the damn things are ballsy.

I see, but how about a highway start, 50+. I know that the RX7's are beasts on the highway, my 88 TurboII is still damn fast for a car 15 years old (only 50,000 miles) and I know that the newer ones are even faster, in an old car and driver mag the RX7 beat a twin turbo supra, TT 300ZX, porsche 968, and Corvette in top gear 50-70mph.

I think yall are over estimating these cars. I just read about 10 reviews from owners who hate the thing. It runs low 14's from what I have also read. But most of all. The car is butt ugly!

low 14s with traction problems...a lot of the srt4s have been dynoing at 225ish at the wheels...and the 3rd gen rx7 is 255 hp if i'm correct...15% loss would be around 220ish...they are also similar in weight...it would probably come down to the driver

This was posted a long time ago my me here is a repost:

________________________________________________

He is playing cat and mouse with me in traffic. He keeps close to me and keeps showing off his cars impressive acceleration. Actually it was not shabby. The exhaust tone was pretty loud.

So we end up side by side rolling at about 25-30 MPH holding up traffic. He asks if I have a twin turbo or single I say single. He says those can be pretty fast. LOL. Then he says "Do you even know what this is??" Without a hesitation I tell him yes a SRT-4. I guess I was supposed to be scared.

I figure he we held up traffic enough. I ask if he wants a go at it. He says hell yeah!

I let him hit it first. I punch it and pull immediately. So I let off for a sec and go 1/2 throttle. He finally spools up and starts to pull on me so I floor it. I sort of half power shifted third, this is the first time I really nailed shifting to 3rd. I have not hit it this hard even at the track. It suprised the hell out of me because I didn't just chirp the wheels I broke them loose and fishtailed. I stayed in it and put an easy 10 cars between us. I had tons of room so I stayed in it up to about 105. Then shifted to 4th and feathered the throttle ever so slightly. I could hear the flames popping out of my pipe.

I slow back down he comes up with this amazed look on his face and screams you know that thing was shooting flames. I just smile shake my head and tell him I am turning. I turned off and went home.
