i dont think its a repost. some kid was talkin **** to his friend about beating the kids fd when it gets outta the shop. i happened to just meet up with the kid and start talking with him when it happened so of sourse sti boy comes down lookin all cool and **** till i ask if he wants to race for kicks (i never raced an STI).... "nahh i just got the car its only got 100 miles im still wearing it in"

blah

whos raced one before think i could have takin him by a lot

im pretty sure from a 2nd gear roll i woulda had him but i dont know about from stop. my 60's dont make many people gasp at the track

Midnightdriver 03-02-2004 01:09 PM

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png I think from a roll you'll have him but from a standing start..might be another story...espacally if he knows how to launch an awd...and most people that haven't owned a subie or a tsi don't have enough exp. in driving them to really use the awd advantage to its fullest...I've seen guys try to race there awd cars but never have driven one before..well there times are WAY bad compared to someone who has driven awd for a good while.

Eyxom 03-02-2004 01:39 PM

Depends on what you have done to the FD. Stock for stock, I think the STI would win. I beat a stock Evo that was boosting 20 psi from a roll, but then again, my FD isn't stock. It'd definitely be a good race regardless.

Midnightdriver 03-02-2004 01:42 PM

beating a stock evo pushing 20 psi isn't much considering the boost 19 off the floor. The is I ment a 19 psi spike before it tapers back down to what ever. now if its got a boost cont. that holds it at 20 psi thats a cool kill. but still they are fun to race. but I love it when the owners sware up and down that just adding a new fmic will add like 10 hp...when all the shops that have done dyno runs before and after all show a lose of hp and tq . Now thats funny.

Eyxom 03-02-2004 01:47 PM

The Evo is a friend and it holds at 20 pounds.

Of course I could've looked at your sig and found out your mods. If an STI beats you with those mods from a roll, then he has some Divine Intervention under his hood. We'll just leave it at that.

sidewinderx7 03-02-2004 07:55 PM

ive onyl raced one. And i beat it ... from a stop. But i have an fc..

Erik 03-02-2004 08:29 PM

you'll beat him with ease https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png ...they dyno about 255whp and weigh 3260 lbs.

I think it would take a stock FD though. Although a lot of the good 1/4mi times for the STI can be attributed to AWD...I've seen quite a few low 13's at 103-105mph.

What was the trap speed of a stock FD?

vosko 03-02-2004 08:30 PM

i drove one they haul but a modded FD should rape it

toddp31 03-02-2004 09:13 PM

At least over here in Japan they really don't race that often, they are consider in different classes. Mosly EVO and WRX/sti racing, while FD's race supra's, GTR and some of the faster silva's.

FlamingGuts 03-02-2004 09:34 PM

yeah like those others have said

stock vs stock the sti would win sadly

MazdaMike 03-02-2004 09:44 PM

yea i was asking more along the lines of vs a modded 300+whp such as myself

mike whos sti u drive in

my friend brian has one

rfreeman27 03-02-2004 10:05 PM

I will race one soon enough.

MazdaMike 03-02-2004 10:06 PM

i see so many on the road already its gonna be a bitch car

blueskaterboy 03-04-2004 10:53 AM

awd is not as godly as people make it to be. with your mods you can definitely take it and probably beat it from a stop if you launch too...

Midnightdriver 03-04-2004 01:51 PM

MM if your sill pushing what it says in you sig. you will beat him...unless hes got some good stuff done...they are 300hp/ 330 tq. so that would be about 257 at wheels as hp goes..He will jump you pretty bad at start but you should be able to run him down by the top of 2nd bottom of 3rd.

bart3lz 03-04-2004 02:00 PM

hey sidewinder is ur fc seriously modded or wat i checked ur profile but nothing.

Lacan91 03-04-2004 02:09 PM

my buddy in his alomst stock 88 mustang 5.0 hung side by side with my other buddy's evo which is almost stock. the sti and evo are real slouches from a roll, their gearing is more for rally racing rather than road racing or top end.

Loi

i doubt that.....

well maybe...the evos are almost as slow as mustangs

Midnightdriver 03-04-2004 03:24 PM

I agree I don't think you friends "stock" 88 mustang hung with and evo 8 unless the evo driver don't know how to drive worth a ****..or wasn't paying attention to your friend in the mustang. and the evo and sti are geared for some pretty good top end for a 4 cyl..145+ for both..most people wont go over 120 I noticed more often it mustang & camaro owners. why I have no Idea. True the evo and sti have tall gears compared to a mustang..but they arn't as tall as the old subie gears..the final in those is a stock 4.11 gear ratio. I still got that thing up to 147 when it was turbo..

FrestyleFC3S 03-04-2004 05:14 PM

plus how the 88 mustangs have no power ... and the evos DO

meaning with the gearing aside...i dont see an 88 POS mustang keeping up with an evo

nor a civic

blueskaterboy 03-05-2004 01:03 AM

i remember seeing a video or an FD and sti of similar hp and they are even off the line and the rest is history, i think i still have it somewhere.

FlamingGuts 03-13-2004 04:47 PM

anyone ever 4WD a FD?

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

tancred 03-13-2004 08:02 PM

It has been my experience that RWD can take AWD off the line, I have a timeslip of a STI doing a 2.0 sec 60ft and my FC doing a 1.8 to pull to a 12.4 in the end, and the STI to get a 13.4

And right now my SVX w/ Intake only, given a 1-2 second head start, will run away from STI and not be caught until 90-100mph. It was a rolling race with my SVX and an sti.....so dont give them too much credit....

BTW, I have video if no one believes that last part....

Midnightdriver 03-13-2004 08:16 PM

as I say it all bepends on how much exp. the driver has with awd...me I would always hit 1.8 60ft . but my set up wasn't good for top end.

Dave 88 A.E 03-14-2004 09:38 AM

Hopefully i get to see what an STi can do at the strip. I have a friend with one that has a full exhaust from the turbo back, and some silicone ic pipes to replace the stock rubber ones. They are suppsed to smpoth out the flow. We are plannig to hit Numidia some time this summer.

Also I want to see how bad i get beat by my friends turbo bug.

FikseRxSeven 03-14-2004 09:49 AM

can someone please go sti hunting

FiKsE l2X SeVeN Jr 03-14-2004 10:32 AM

i can hunt my boss's sti if your car was fully functional

martel317 03-18-2004 12:09 AM

doesn't a sti run a average of 13.2 or 13.3, i know we all love 7's but, i think stock on stock a sti would definitaley beat the 7, unless the stil driver cant drive for s.h.i.t https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif

jspecracer7 03-18-2004 02:19 AM

b@@sted_fd 03-18-2004 09:26 AM

you have to remember that an sti is a factory modded option with 300 hp instead of i think 240hp. take a wrx and an rx7, the 7 will kill it. take an sti and a 300hp 7 and the fd3s would walk all over it...

RotaryXSevn 03-18-2004 11:07 AM

tancred, lets see the vid! (but i do believe you, seriously)

jamesuncw 03-24-2004 10:59 PM

My roomate has an STi with intake. I walked him easily from all kinds of 3rd and 4th gear pulls. Never tried from a stop.

Streeport , intake , full exhaust , pettit ecu 12 lbs.

ApneaBlue 08-16-2007 01:13 PM

My friend has an STI with ECU and intake. From a stand still he will get the best of me but from even a slight we hand for a second until boost builds...My mods are www.apneablue.com/rx7

Jims554321 08-16-2007 04:18 PM

I am sitting at work early last week and my cel phone rings. Its my dad, he has a 1993 RX7 with a Power FC, downpipe, catback, intake, pulley's, and fresh motor, it dyno's 320RWHP. He asks me what a STIWRX is, god he cracks me up, so I say a Subie WRX STi? He says "yeah, I guess so, it has this huge wing on the back...... think I can take him? He was trying me on the entrance ramp to the interstate and I I am alongside him right now, I am going to downshift and see......" Line goes dead.

I laugh, my 62 year old father ready the throw down.

So my cel rings again about 20 seconds later:

Me: Hello

Dad: Its all over!

Me: Whats all over?

Dad: The race, its all over, yup, that fast, it was over before it started.

Me: So he tried you?

Dad: Yup, he hit it first, I was in 3rd gear doing about 60 and he jumped.... for a second then I ripped past him and put bus lengths on him, I ran it through to the top of 4th and shut down. *laughing* then when I let out of it and slowed back down to about 80 he did a fly by.

Me: Good stuff, I was sure you would take him.

The old dude cracks me up.

WTF?

Jims554321 08-17-2007 11:36 AM

Cliff notes?

A 320 RWHP FD will rip a STI a new one from a 60 roll.

From a dig it will take a gear or two to run one down and pass it.

I thought the story was funny. I guess you had to be there.

No. You're right. It is funny.

Sukai94 08-17-2007 11:43 PM

Are we all talking about drag racing?

Yes stock STi beats stock FD in the 1/4. Not by much though. Maybe if I had some racing slicks haha (seriously)

I know you guys gotta road race. Come on! Although the STi has less of an understeer tendency than the EVO it is still there. On a track/road with tight turns if you can handle your FD well you really should be able to take the STi or EVO.

Although it is hard to find drivers that are equally matched these days. Anyone else got thoughts on it?

Also consider you pay twice for the STi than the FD. And its not a rotary so who cares. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/happy.gif lol jkjk
